Parts! Bend over AND smile! short rant!

Sorry Mike, but if you don't think that politics has something to do with it, you as a moderator ( your politics) should understand that. Every word spoken here from page one, without saying it by word, is politics. Tip toeing on the fence is hiding. I will just move on, thanks guys!
Yes I agree, everything in this world is touched by politics but I don't need to go there right here. I am just amazed as HOW much profit there is in the over the counter parts business. Thats just LIFE! Yes I am glad ther are resto parts vendors, brick stores to go to for new (old) parts I don't want to order on line, and I also crave the old days when I could go to any number of boneyards, a few that had NOTHING BUT OLD cars!!!!!!!! I feel bad for the younger guy that can not really relate to th old days boneyard wise. Maybe the price I pay for being old!!!!! :poke: :BangHead:

OK so we have had pretty bad inflation now for the last 2 1/2 years, but everytime I have to buy anything at the friggin "auto part store" now days, no matter whose name is on the door, IT is Rape! Crazy!
Yea I buy ALL I can at Rock or anywhere else but he local parts emporium!
Example: OK so its a Ford part, but does not matter what make. Example: 66 Ford starter relay. Rock is $8 plus some shipping.... the "other guy" is $30 local pickup. same part, same brand. ITS NUTS!!!!!!!!! :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead: :elmer:
My mama told me you gota shop around And its still very true today

It surprised me to see your Lancer pictured.

I've been slowly buying parts for a 46re transmission, most via eBay and most "upgrade" parts like billet servos and such, and especially on eBay it's unbelievable how much prices vary among sellers of the exact same thing. Same brand, part number and all. I don't know how some of these idiots ever expect to sell anything when within 2-3 listings up or down someone has the same thing for sometimes 1/2 the price...

barbee6043, I would love to buy your Lancer. But I am in the same boat as you.
My mind and body just don't get along... :(

COOL cars thy are!!!!!!!
Hey buy MY Lancer have have mulitples!!!! I am old, woreout and bad knees..IF I get my two current projects finsihed I will be good!!!!
I would buy all of your Lancers if they were closer to Pennsylvania. Will you ship them to me for free? LOL:D

I sold it off the early A FB site about 6 weeks ago. Best off I have ever had was $2000 and that included all my extra slant parts. He was from Tn. and has 5-6 road toads. Money talks and BS walks!! Glad to see it get a good home and someone spend at least a few $.
I average selling off about 1 car a year. 90% go to guys out of state. Tx. guys in general, are not very good buyers. They want to sell high and buy cheap. Like we all do! But I am seeing ask $ for projects way down from the stupid in general. As far away as n. e. Pa. Most drive here for them, a few go on transport of hotshots. I am about too old and woreout to keep on. Down to my 2 Fords and 1 AMC.

Get ready to watch your wallet some more. If the next administration follows through on it's raising tariffs on goods coming into the US prices will go up even more. Have heard of businesses already trying to buy up raw materials as they expect the price to go up and they will pass it along t customers.

WE need quality manu. back here in the USA> Buying sorry junk is NOT cost effective.
Balance of trade? We spend something like 500 billion with China and they spend like 300 million with us. Not healthy in the long run/

Barbee,
Funny story.

back to talking about parts prices, Years ago back in MO, the local parts house , I don't remember what I needed, but I went to the counter asking for bla bla. The guy says $6.50 , But I don't have one. So I go to the next parts house to get one. The guy tells me $12!!!
So I say $12 , Joe blo down the street wanted $6. The counter guy asked me why I didn't bu it from them ?
I said they didn't have it !
So he says
I COULD SELL FOR THAT TOO, IF I DIDN'T HAVE EM !!!!!

When your cost of what you pay your workers goes up you have to raise your prices. I work by myself and had to raise head porting up 50.00 and intake porting 25.00-50.00. My burrs went up bigtime, cables and replacement parts for my grinder, valve seat cutters, fluids, gas to heat the shop and electric.
I can hear your voice in your old posts and I am sad you are gone.

Like the guy wanting to sell his 70 6 pac Cuda. So he advertises a 71 hemi cuda, that he DOES NOT have at a really good price. Phone rings of the hook. Each time, he tells the caller he just sold that hemi Cuda but he does HAVE a good 70 Cuda 6 pac car he would sell. He sells the 6 pac Cuda next day!!
American pickers can't do that!! :BangHead: :poke:

My brother use to own his own a parts store. I had an account, and he sold to me at cost. When my bill crept over $500 he would tell me to pay it down. I would do brake jobs on the side. Made money on parts and labor. A couple of jobs would pay me down. Ah the good old days.

Around here there are too many middleman and each gets their chunk of $$$. The mfg sells it to a wholesaler who basically warehouses the parts for distribution in the region. The wholesaler marks it up and sells it to a dealer who then sells it to another distributor or service shop who then marks it up again and sells it to you. A few of these wholesalers also sell direct. Imagine what their margin is. As I posted earlier you can cut out the middleman if you can wait.
