Yeah, I stopped ordering from ROC for that exact reason, plus if you get a defective part it's a pain in da a$$ to replace it.Yeah, it makes it hard to support the local business sometimes. On big parts, Rock really nails you on shipping, though- sometimes the local store will win out in that regard. And sometimes they'll price match, it's worth it to ask.
But the big advantage to local stores is that you can hold the part in your hands and tell right away whether it's the right part, without having to mess with return authorizations or the argument that ensues when they try to tell you that YOU ordered the wrong part, and it couldn't possibly be their listing that was wrong...

Just looking for a small safe town within an hours drive to the beach.

Don't buy at the beach because they get hit a lot with hurricanes, in Florida an hour's drive inland is good but it's not flat terrain in NC which is why western NC faired so badly with that hurricane this year.

Yes, that's why at least hours ride preferably on higher elevation too. Lots of streams that flood.
Mom said, "Never build by the creek or river." or even the wet weather ditch!!

Hey Mtrhead. Mind sharing the names/locations of some of the yards down there? Haven't rummaged through a good junkyard in a while. Need some rear seats for a 71 Duster and a center console...thanks!

I live 2 blocks from the 8th largest lake in Florida and it empties into the St Johns River, but I am at least 30 feet above the lake. My grandfather always said to move where the old houses are because that's a sign that the area doesn't flood.

Actually, That West coast pic is how they are up here. Anything 10 years old gets crushed. I wish they looked like Pic 1 up here. At least you'd have a chance of finding something.

I always cross-shop Rock, eBay, Amazon etc. along with local parts houses. Recenty, Oreily's opened a location within 10 minutes from me. I opened a commercial charge account. Nets me about 20% off retail and delivery. I also buy in bulk and during sales. It's literally money in your pocket as things seem to get any cheaper or easier to find.

I found a good Mopar wrecking yard in Selma NC, here's the address. Guy is only there on Saturdays: 819 Batten Farm rd Selma. It's been there since 1968.

There's an old saying that holds true "if the older generation didn't build there neither should you" however with construction and modern projects the drainage gets altered severely...

I can't do local chain parts stores... the Mcdonalds worker at the counter is just too much. I asked the guy at Advance auto if they had Plastiguage he says no I show him my phone "the website says you do" he goes in the back turns around comes back says "nope" he didnt know what it was or where to look...
