petty blue twister(1972)...............conclusion

-
yea, i am on the fence about the 340-4 speed, but i do not have the original engine/trans anyway, so i guess it will not hurt.lol

what do you guys think?
how bout the rally dash?

so this car came with the rallies with trim rings, hood scoops, no sharktooth grille that i am aware of. would the grille be on the fender tag or build sheet?
Was your hood painted? The ones I have seen in person were painted but im not sure if thats correct. And the grille would be on the fender tag. pretty sure if you had hood scoops, you had the grille:cheers:. As Twisted 72 said, its a package

there is nothing about a grille on the tag, just a51 for the twister package, but some say even though it was the twister package, in 72 the grille was still optional. i did not yet ask the original owner what stlye it had

1971 was the last year for the coveted Rallye Instrument Clustre in ANY "A" Body .

"TB3" was "Petty Blue" , from 1964-1971 ; it was special order , and was confined to the south-east U.S.
For 1972 , the colour was reassigned as :
- "Super Blue" ( Dodge )
- "Basin Street Blue" ( Plymouth )
- "999" ( et al. ) was dropped , as the actual colour code was added to the fender tag .

As far as I know , all Twisters in '71 & '72 had the Shark Tooth Grille ; the Twister package continued through at least the 1974 model year .

IMO : keep the interior stock ( dash , gauges , etc. ) ; slip a stock-looking 340 into that sucker , with a bangin' 727 behind it ; upgrade the brakes to the '73 & up single piston calipres ; drop a 5x4.5" blot pattern 8.25" diff in it , with 3.55's ; slap some 15x7" or 15x8" Rallye Wheels on 'er with the '70 - '71 centre caps , and leave the trim rings off ; dual exhaust without tips ( just turn downs ) .

That'll make a sweet Duster when you're done !

well, i would keep it an auto, but i sold the 727 i had, and no cash to buy another.lol so i am stuck with the 4-speed setup
plus, i have the ralley dash, and i figured it would find a good resting place in it.lol

i am going to build it to the factory outside, with a 340, 4 speed, . i am going to put a sharktooth grille in it whether it had it from factory or not. also putting in a rally dash. i know it did not have it from factory, but i love the look of them.

i am thinking of changine the interior from black, to white, so it looks better with the blue car and white stripes. that is not a definate thouh, as i have nice black stuff

as far as rims, i have a set of rallies that the rears have been widened 3 inches, and look great under the back, so i may go back to stock rallies. if not i have a like new set of cragers s/s rims/tires

All 72's did NOT come with the sharkstooth grille - hood scoops or rallye's. These were all option's on the 72 Twister's. The hood treatment is a combination of tape stripe and paint.

1972 Plymouth Rapid Transit System ad . There's no close-up pic of the Duster , but that's of little consequence , as it's not an ad for the Twister .

I was always under the impression that all Twisters got the "340" Grille , as the were supposed to be 340 look-alike models .

A little known fact about the 72 Twister is that there were a few 340 cars built for Canadian export. During The All Chrysler Nationals I spoke with two gentleman from Canada who knew of two such cars in their home town.........
