I bought a 225, .030 over, .100 off the head, "engine builder" valves, and stock cam. If I install a bigger cam, will I have interference problems? If I'm basically building for torque, will I even need a bigger cam? Thanks in advance...

I ran a 225 for a few years with stock sized valves, .100" off the head, and a .530" 240° @ .050" solid lifter cam with no clearance issues. How big of a cam are you thinking of?

Nothing huge, I have a NOS Direct Connection cam pkg, off the top of my head the part number ends in "69". I looked it up and it was "General High Performance", said to use the 340 valve spring. I know it's a bit more than a torque cam but it should wake it up pretty good all around.

If I can use that cam, I'll go 2-bbl & a clifford intake I have. If not, I'll go stock cam, 1bbl and factory aluminum feather duster intake I have. Headers (or these cool log-type dual manifolds I picked up cheap) either way.

This is going in a 67 Valiant, automatic. Stock driveline.

Thanks for any advice / thoughts...

In the late 70s/early 80s I was running a slant with 0.125" off the head and 0.495" valve lift cam 311 adv deg no problems

Not trying to rain on your parade here....and this is something I don't know a lot about, but I do know for a FACT that MP had a big problem with some of the slant cams. Maybe slantsixdan, Charlie or Frank will chime in on it. I don't know the details, but I KNOW there was a problem somewhere.

do you have the mp.432 cam? =.460/268*106
thats a good cam, if you don't like it I'll buy it from you.

it works good with around 2200-2400 stall and 3.55-4.10 gears

All cam manufactures have been down that road with bad bump sticks. They have made there rounds through the net/boards here a few times.

I got all that, but there was one part number in particular if I remember right. Not often only one part number is affected, but that was the case. I just don't know which one.

I had one of the MP .528/.276 cams that the teeth of the dist/oil pump drive gears broke !!

6Pakattack has the right :angry7: MP cam. The failure rate for this cam is the highest we have seen. However the data suggests that it was due to racing and high RPMs. We dont really know. I believe just about any cam manufacturer has had a issue with the cam to oil pump drive gear failing. My personal belief is it is the oil pump drive gear that fails Not the cam. This is why Doug Dutra and I have been getting the gears Heat Treated. We both have them for sale and as far as I know we have not had a failure (even under racing conditions)

As for the original posters question about running the bigger cam. You would most likely be fine. But if it was me in only takes a minute to put some clay on the valves and roll the engine over.

not just that cam.....

JEFFTHEMARINE, a member here, had a MP.436 we put into his slant some months ago and the oil drive gear on the cam took a **** and wiped out his motor...spun all rods.
'The catch is he was probably rev'n a whole 3k when it happened'.....
It's not just one particular slant cam, it's a few or the whole production run of the bunch.

oh and the only 276* slant cam made by mopar that I knew of was the .490/276*.

the .528 had 284*, like sb/bb.
