Piston pin bad ?

Voila.... I hope this link works

That sure does not sound like a piston pin or piston slap. Sounds like it is outside of the engine to me.

Valve covers were off. What heads and how big is your cam? Valve Spring bind and the lifter is banging?

stock heads , Lunati Voodoo 268 duration , Hughes springs to match , definitely inside engine..I can feel it with my hand on the carb.

I will pull the intake tonight to see if I dropped a 1" nut in there..lol ..or something big !
then will borescope the chambers to check for damage and/or misc objects floating around.

I can't say I have much experience with rod or crank issues (thank god..) so I am not exactly sure what each sounds like. But I dont imagine they sound like that.

Do you by any chance have a valley tray/pan in there? Under the intake??

Reason I ask is I had to clearance mine when I put it in because it was catching on one of the push rods.

What is the cams lift?

If you did not have the spring pockets machined or longer valve stems and a taller installed stem height the max lift you will get out of it is around .520ish before parts start hitting each other with stock heads. This is why I am asking about LIFT.

Sorry , the Voodoo 406.. (now called a 703) with 268 duration is such a common cam I assumed that most would know...

.494 intake .513 exhaust
spring seats and guides machined

Engine has a definate miss to it, I assume the carb and timing are properly adjusted.

Engine sounds lean to me.

And by the sound it sounds like fly wheel bolts or fan bolts , had a problem where the fan bolts were to long and being tight to a wrench but not clamping.

You may have two totally unrelated problems

have checked both fan and flexplate bolts... both ok..no signs of any contact either.
besides I took the belts off and ran. Still had noise...

As for the tuning , I really dont dare run it long enough to warm up again and spend time with jetting etc...

This is a pretty HARD hit that is making the noise ! Not sure the vid communicates that.

That's not a pin or piston noise,..

I've heard a similar sound a coupla times,, an old engine, not run for many years,, it was a sticking valve slapping shut, and freed itself after using an additive..

Another time was also a valve sticking (new build),, it had 2 noises,, the piston slapping a stuck intake valve,, and the sound of the valve snapping shut.. (It didn't bend the valve)

Perhaps use your bore-scope to check the piston valve reliefs for an interference mark from the valve..

I hope I'm wrong..

It might be flywheel or fan bolts ?? but they would have to be IN the engine...lol

gotta keep a sense of humor !

I would take the oil filter off and cut it open to see if you have any metal flakes in it. This might tell you if you should or shouldn't run it anymore.

the fan bolts on mine seemed tight but were bottoming out and not clamping down

I suppose I could put some lock washers under fanl bolts....

My machinist said to bring filter in as well. I dont have much time during week other than Mondays. Work till 7pm+ each night.

I don't think that's anything I've heard before.. Not wristpin, not a lifter or rocker. Are the valve springs all intact? Maybe a dampener is broken or something... That's an odd one.

Maybe this is it ? #8 hole thru borescope.......urgh......

Appherently I wasnt as carefull as I thought about not getting fasteners into intake !
Havent found the culprit yet... Maybe detonation ? I doubt it !
