Poor Superbird, won't sell!

I find the post particularly funny as I have a close friend that was given a 77 mg midget for free does not rune but has been stored since 85 when car broke the rear lost the keys and its been sitting since.Car has many problems including small amounts of rust.
That being said my buddy want to list this pos on craigslist. Now i would not pay **** for it but my buddy owes his brother 800 buck car was free and his brother will wipe the debt for the car.Now he thinks in this economy he will get more money for this POS so as it sits if if trades the car to his brother the only one loosing is me as it was my gas about 25 bucks worth that i'm out and i'm cool with i just want him to give this head ache to his brother my payment would be ten fold knowing that once his brother gets this car we will know that its only worth 200 at the scrape yard.

Sorry just had to vent. ARCO

I've been doing some shopping and it sure seems like prices are up compared to last year.

Kind of significantly even.

Lots of A-bodies in the 12K asking range that would have gone for 8K recently...

Asking is one thing, getting is another. However, with the dollar headed for almost certain demise and boomers getting older and wondering what to do with their dollars maybe some are being deployed into toys. I know I am doing just that.

To me that car isn't a good use of $175K when so many usable cars are out there with the owners needing cash and ready to deal.

x2

Another reason, IMO, is that there is a trend in "trash to treasure" with tv shows like American Pickers, American Restoration, Pawn Stars, Storage wars, Barrot Jackson, etc., that have some people thinking anything old is rare and expensive. Granted, a real deal SuperBird is rare and expensive, but now I see people listing mid 70's 4-door beaters as "classic muscle cars" and asking ridiculous amounts for them.

That car was used to chase airplanes on the runway and was lightened up by a NASCAR builder

I remember seeing something about the epa using those once. The y lightened up so they could stuff em full of electronic measuring equipment. If I remember right basically the whole car was full of equipment with room for a driver and maybe somebody to operate everything.

Cool piece if history nonetheless

Wherever I read about them it had the full history with pics and everything. I think they even said something about swapping trannies, gears, etc. Even having dual batteries which would explain dual alternators for the the big electrical system.

I know a little something about that car.
It was used to chase jets to measure emission levels put off by the jet engines.
It was heavily loaded with a bunch of air collection and monitoring equipment. There was a couple of air collectors on the wing at one time.
but, I will say this, if $175K was offered and refused then this is a case where 2 fools crossed paths.
The EPA owning it isn't enough prominence for me to want it. I'd be more impressed with KFC Charger.

that car was just restored here in connecticut a couple years ago, and the shop that restored it ( E muscle ) actually called me and looked at my superbird before they started the resto. It was the Ray Nicholes engineering car, built for the EPA to chase jets down the runway and it had quite a bit of special electronic equipment bolted in the thing, and some of it was still there. The car was originaly white from the factory, but for some unknown reason they chose to paint it a light blue color, with no graphics. truely an interesting car.
