Hey guys after researching all over the web and this site ive decided that it would benefit alot of people (including myself) if people would be so kind as to post their "medium" built small block combos. By medium built im talking about maybe cast internals, rhs/X heads instead of eddies, budget stroker builds...etc. Just food for thought on the definition of "medium". Thanks guys

Your better off looking at the racers forum IMO for the times you want to run and that list of combo's that span from 12 seconds down to the 9's and 8's.

Medium built builds are very sibjective and IMO, stroker combo's are not medium. Nor is a set of after market heads. (On the expense level and capabilities)
Considering a set of Edel. heads can be ported to 300 cfm and move a 400 stroker into the 10's .... is this a medium build to you? Cause this is what you'll get back.

This winter I'm building a "medium performance" motor. It's for my convertible so it's not some Eddy headed monster.
360+.030
KB 107's
Eagle rods
stock crank
308 heads, mild bowl work
72 340 rebuilt TQ
Eddy RPM intake
Stock 360 exhaust manifolds with 2 1/2 X pipe exhaust
cloyes timing chain
I had the assembly balanced (externally)
Roller cam, I haven't picked the cam out yet (low on funds..LOL)
This should be a medium build in my book.

40 over stock stroke 360
rhs heads by imm engines with 66cc chambers
stock crank with milodon windage tray
scat i beam rods
kb 107's zero decked
rpm airgap intake
750 demon
hughes 1.6 rockers
comp xe275hl cam
I think that could be considered a mild build.

Stock 77 360 .040 over with stock crank, rods, and block
Trw 8.5 to 1 forged pistons actual compression ratio 7.823 to 1
Unported X heads
.508 Mopar hydraulic cam
crane gold roller rockers
1 5/8 headers 2.5 exhaust flowmasters
Edelbrock Torker 340
750 Holley double pumper
904 autp low gear
10 inch converter
4.56 gears
Ran 12.60s all day in a stock 340 Dart Swinger @ 3440 race weight.

"Medium" stroker...well its a 318 block and cast heads :angel12:

318 with 4" crank = 392 cui.
4" Cast Eagle crank
Eagle I beam rods
587 ported Cast heads - 2.02 valve - 243cfm @ .550 (Mild)
KB (IC)846 Flat Top pistons
10.5 comp
Comp XS282S cam 245/252 - .520/.540 (Mild-ish..)
Comp stainless 1.5 rockers (Mild)
M1 SP intake
800 AVS Thunder
Crane Hi 6 ignition / Recurved DC tach dist.
904 (727 on order from CRT)
9.5" Continental 3400rpm
3.89 gears / 8.75 742 SG diff - 27" tyre (Mild)

Run 111.8 mph at 3650lbs on street tyres - No traction...1.84 60ft...12.3 ET.
(Should run a flat 12 with the HP its making)

Have you guys writen up your stuff in the racers forum with your combo's?
Even more so since you have listed the times your car runs. These would be good additions IF you have not allready posted in the racers forum for time zones.

Just a WAG, I'd bet that combo would make right at 430hp and 440-445tq. Good enough to run 11's at 113-115 in a 3100-3200# car that works well. That's a pretty stout medium build.

Here's mine:

Stock 1998 5.9 Magnum shortblock (as in pulled out of junkyard and dropped in my car)
Comp custom hydraulic roller
Hughes Iron Ram heads (drilled for LA intakes)
Eddy Air Gap (LA style)
750 quickfuel
1-5/8 Hooker Comps

Car has run 11.70 @ 113.3 mph, made 325 on the chassis dyno. Car is all steel with full factory interior.

Here is the first combo I ever built:
360
Kb107s 10.7 compression
XE274
Magnum heads with port and 2.02 intake valves
stock crank
reconditioned rods with arp bolts
Under drive crank pulley
holley 750 vac sec
1.6 roller rockers
Crosswind Intake air gap with HVH supersucker carb spacer

should have made at least 400hp

I dont have one right now but if I did;

A meduim cost stroker build would be a 318 or 340 block,360 crank and some custom pistons, plus a solid lifter cam. Solid lifter is always the low $$ option for big power...

Wow you guys run some fast times , I know my 340 puts out 412 HP 409 torque and 13.4 is best I could run , of course no slicks and spinning through 2nd gear

340 bored .30 over
268 ex comp cam
eagle I rods
KB Pistons
RPM Airgap intake
Holley VAC SEC 750
heads are stock 2.02 valve

dynoed at 333hp and 367 tq

Thats your issue right there - I've had the same problems, RW Dyno of 340 RWHP, 112 MPH...............and can't get my 60ft under 1.80 - my car is very light in the tail and the local track is badly prepped.

360 block bored 40 over
4" cast alloy scat 9000 series crank
410 cubic inches
Ibeams
10.2-1 dish pistons
rhs -LA heads with some port work
custom ground roller cam
rpm air gap
holley 950 hp
hasn't been down the track so I don't know the times but the dyno says shes a nice medium build -eh Brian ?

519HP and 527TQ isn't too shabby at all!

Another nice build I've seen is going to 1.94 intake valves in stock heads with 11/32 stems, blend valve job in, KB 107's in the hole, comp was 9.5:1, comp xe268 cam, stock 360 crank and rods, rpm intake and 750DP made 350's HP with stock valve train. Gets really good mileage and runs 13's. Not bad for 4000.00 OTD.

Well, I might as well enter two of my (realitivley) budget street builds. There simple enuff and won't break the bank.

Dead stock '79 - 318, remove the junk.... add

600 cfm Carter AFB
LD4B Edelbrock intake
Crane cam's 216/228-.454/.480-112 cam
Hooker comp headers connected to a Jegs 2-1/2 exhaust
MP distrib and orange box (Yea, it work!)
In a '74 Duster w/a stock 904 and a 3.21 sure grip on 225/70/14's, it was a high 14 second car. Never got to tune it up well. Best run was a cold Oct. day which ram 15.14 @ (IIRC) 89 mph.

Nice for bolt on's and a cam. The above combo could use more compression. (Head mill or slug change?) Larger valves would have been nice (AKA 360 valves) and some more converter since the one I was useing was a stock lock up for '79.

360
zero deck KB 107 slugs @ 030 over.
Edel RPM heads, intake and 750 AFB
Hooker Super Comp headers into a 2-1/2 exhaust
4spd/4.10's

(From here, use the cam of your choice on a build like this to fit the needs of your build/car performance. Below is a few cams I used.)
1st cam was a 292/.509 purple. Low 12's OOTB
2nd cam, a 288/.499 used with Rhodes lifters. No time, noticed alot of torque gained down low. Much more enjoyable to drive.
3rd cam yet un-tested, a solid comp cam 296/.525-110
So far, I have only driven around the area to see how it reacts. So far, so good, very nice and streetable. Not a nasty pig.
(I also want to get 1.6 rockers for this cam and try for 11's.)

71 340 ,20 over ,forged slugs , 10:1 comp,j heads,custom hyd cam 284 234@50 470 lift 112 lsa,hooker headers,topped with an eddy street tunnel ram and 390 cfm holleys, unknown what the hp is.
