Practice mufflers

Here are the 12-14-13 update photos. Been a while because I had to wait for more st. st. material and had to go buy some more ceramic fiber. We will finish welding them soon and cut off the inlet and outlet bushings. If the inlet looks slightly angled, you have good eyesight because it is. The pipe I used was not completely straight and we are going to cut it off 1.5 to 2" from the body and flange it anyway so the small angular misalignment will be a non-issue..

You bet they will ... and you will not hear them all the way in Knob Noster (like you might others)!! :D

No, it's an actual place with an Air Force base and everything. Member Lelo Dart above appears to be from there. Lelo are you in the service or are you just a local?!?
 
Muffler #2 and Muffler #1 are now both at the welders and should be done in a day or so. Then, we get to hang them and mock-up tailpipes. Not sure when as FIRST Robotics' season starts for me Jan 4th. From that day on, it is six solid weeks of high school robotics with no time for anything else.

OK, here they are welded but not powder coated and they still have no welded flanges. Contrast these with the original paper mockup and the OEM 340 1969 Cuda muffler in the photos.

These new "Super A-Body" mufflers will sound smooth yet powerful and they will be without much resonance due to their large internal volume and the ceramic packing I used.

And the stocker next to the "Super A-body" mufflers. Stock ones are 18" long by 4.25" or so by 9.25" or so with 2.25" in and out bushings that are about 2" long.
The new mufflers are 19" by 5" by 11" and we shall keep the overall length close to 22.0" by welding the three bolt flanges where needed.

Agreed. Unfortunately, the car is still engine-less and will be for a few months. Just imagine you can hear a "vroom vroom" :):) .

Until I can raise the funds to complete my machine work, we just have to settle for vroom vroom!!

Mufflers look nice Tom, I'll come by tomorrow to check them out.
 
I can honestly say, not a single thing has been done to make my car closer to being on the road. It's sad when you're broke and trying to keep a roof over your head.
 
Actually, we are going to try to get the 727 apart and checked over soon and then see what we can do next.
I too am anxious as they are down my basement and I want to get them powder coated and on soon too. :):)

That is strange?!? Things aren't as bad as they seem, I was just having a bad day yesterday. I do have some things that I could do to get the Dart ready that won't cost that much. The K member is painted and ready to go in, I just have to buy the correct idler arm for it. Let me know when you're ready to tear into the transmission.
 
Well, it is time to resurrect this old string because Brian, my brother, and I finally got the exhaust on his 67 Dart. Still need to make tailpipes and that will get rid of the terrible roar and resonation you always get with exhaust exiting under the chassis but these sound fine and fit as well as the cardboard ones did back in 2013-2014!
The pipes were mocked up and patterns sent off to a mandrel bender to produce duplicates for Brian. We then cut and fitted and welded and hung it all under the car.
Brian has sound clip but without tailpipes it is very hard to judge what these sound like.
