What's the spoiler off of? Might have to steal that idea also. Breaks up the back and gives it a bit of dimension. Looks scratch built. I probably should stop doing body mods and hurry up and get it done! Ha! Was going to ask you, do you use Sherman Williams clear as well and how does it hold up? I'm using spies base coat which is bitchin but I just want to use good stuff but its been a while since I've bought clear so figured I'd get a few opinions.

The spoiler is from a mid 80s Camaro. Its been cut up and reshaped and put back together.
Yes I use Sherwin Williams clear. CC950 High solid clear. Not cheap about 400 a gallon spray able.

I block all the panels off the car.All the panels are aligned before disassembly. I paint a buff all panels separately. Even metallics. Then the car will be reassembled. You can block the car and let it set. Then reprime as needed. The longer you let the primer set before paint the less problem you will have with die back after paint.

Could you explain why you block off the car and paint panels separately? I've thought of painting separately just due to not having a proper booth.

Well. with all the panels on the car in my opinion you can never get as clean a finish painting everything together. Painting separate you can get into every corner and put a slick finish on every panel. wet sanding and buffing is much easier doing every panel separate. I will also back tape the painted side of the panel after paint and finish the back side of the panel. No way to do that with the car together. Look at my Face book page and you will see in all the full builds we do this to every car to every panel We also buff all the door jambs, wet sand and buff will take me around 60 labor hours from start to finish.

Here is a picture of a set of fenders from a mustang we are finishing up. Just no way to get to this level of detail with all the panels on the car and painting.

Beautiful. Thanks for explaining. Makes prrfect sense :)

I should have done that to the underside of my fenders, but I figured no rust under there for almost 40 years, why spray on and risk the chance. They look awesome though!!!

Started working on getting the cowl vents cut out and replace with a solid panel. I'm sure some of you think I have lost my mind for doing such a thing, But I promise there there is a motive behind this madness. It will all come together in the end and you will see why I did this. Pretty hard to explain with out a visual.

I went this route to be different, but after the fact my buddy said I should have put a 1950's pick up truck style cowl vent in then hook it to a power actuator.....kind of like a 1970 Road Runner air grabber for the cowl, would love to see someone pull this off...

with the new panel all welded in place a light coat of Duraglass goes over the repaired area and then I'm ready to start blocking the panel. Next will be cutting out the fire wall. With all the holes that need to go away it will be easier to just replace the whole thing.

Maybe changing color as well. Still going to use the black wheels and other black treatment around the car. Just really wanting something a little differant.what do you think? It's a Porshe color called Cognac metallic. I think it would look badass with the black wheels. I have some nice bright white paint for sale...LOL

I'm having a rendering done of the completed car. I was sent a copy of the work in process. All though it's not quite finished yet. There are still some things to change in the rendering it's looking pretty good and thought I would share, Not much to report on the car other than cutting welding blocking and sanding. Like I said earlier not going to post all the boring body work pic's.

That rendering looks sick. That porshe copper color will look bad *** with the black accents.

I agree! The white looks sick and I'm definitely going to stick with that for my '68 Dart as well. The copper would look great as well. It will definitely make you stand out in the crowd more. I love the build and keep it up. :D

Too bad. I like the body work :(

Well was able to spend some time on the car today. I got the shell all cleaned up and in the booth for epoxy prime. Still a lot to do before it's ready for paint,But one step closer.

Looks awesome. I'm looking at the pics and breathing in through my nose... I smell the fresh epoxy. Nice.

What were your steps to prep before epoxy?

Just some basic prep. Clean with wax and grease remover. blow everything out and sweep and start shooting.
