I had the same idea about adding hood extractors a few years back but the hood almost complete and didn't want toad more time to the body guys prolonged completion date. I think that they really look good, flimsy or not.

When my car started body work I was trying to figure out how much hood clearance I needed. I did not think the "standard" six pack hood would clear. So my concept was to take the factory '68 Barracuda hood and raise the center using the upward curve of the area where the inserts mount but go up as much as needed and make the center look as much as possible like the '70 AAR hood. Then I wanted to add some deep heat extractors on each of the front sides, similar to GT40. About the same time I bought my wheels. A few months later the first pictures of the Hellcat emerged. Yikes! The hood would have been very similar, and the wheels - you be the judge! Thankfully I was able to squeeze the tunnel ram under the hood. It would have been awkward trying to explain to people that my hood ideas and wheel selection were BEFORE pictures of the Hellcat were released. People would have been skeptical and think I was trying to copy the look.

Thanks Ross. Did you get your rendering of the wheels back yet?

Nope, last Thursday I was told it would take a few days to get the model of the center cap designed.....a week later and still nothing. This initially started out as less than a week to update the rendering and that ended up taking almost 5 weeks in the end so if that is the scale of time line were going to use , then I figure this will take till next week. I did email him again last night and as of this morning all I've heard back has been the sound of crickets........
 
Ross , I feel your pain. My oil pan flange was to take a couple of weeks and we are at 6 and waiting. Springs are at 8 and two weeks ago he told me 2 weeks. Last Friday he told me the same thing 2 weeks.
Hang in there I think you need to see the 2nd version in print. Although my bet is on the 1st when all said and done. I could be wrong. It sure wouldn't be the first time. LOL

Don't you hate waiting on things for your car? I feel ya except in my case it's not parts but labor. :banghead:
 
Well. Let's me recap my day. Steering column came in today. I wrote down the wrong part number so I received one that was to short. The gas tank came in and I ordered that wrong to. Needed a fuel injection tank and got a non injection tank. So that will all go back on monday. Man I'm on a roll. Good news is the oil pan flange will ship on monday. My machinist stopped by the shop and picked up the heat extractors and will be making a new set from billet aluminum. So I guess I'm 50/50 for the day.
 
Still sticking to doing what I can. I decided the start button looked like bozos nose sticking out of the dash. So I made the start button set flush in the dash building a recessed pocket. Tired of the everything looking so unfinished I shot the dash in epoxy and then primer surfacer so I can finish sanding it and hope to just finish it up. The new steering column will be here Monday along with the steering wheel. I should be able to get the column and dash painted by the end of next week. So I can just set them aside until they are ready to go back in for final assembly.

So I,m finally done building the oil pan. Now we can get back to getting the motor and transmission mounted. Did a little sanding on the dash tonight so I don't leave that unfinished.

Well it looks like all the measuring to get the pan to clear the rack is going to pay off. This is the first time I have had a chance to set it in place after finishing it up. I will be bolting it to the motor and setting the motor and transmission back in tomorrow morning. If everything looks good I can finally start building motor and transmission mounts.

Now the project is moving in the right direction. Bolted the pan up and in it goes. Well kind of. The transmission tunnel had to be cut out to get the drive line a 3 degrees. But that's really not uncommon. Seems we do this a lot around the shop. Late model drive trains and old cars have there challenges. installed the intake and tacked the the front throttle body plate in place. I originally left it off so I could position the throttle body to hide the throttle cable. And wasn't sure how it was going to clear the power steering pulley. But I think we are home free on that situation.

I have to agree the motor looks like it belongs in there, everything is really coming along awesome. thanks again for all your help and opinions regarding the wheels. Look forward to seeing more progress pics.

Are you gonna run the factory turbo setup or are you gonna fab up a whole new system?

Mr2.4 The nasty looking motor was bought just for mock up and the use of the block. Nothing stock on this motor. I'm sure your familiar with the name DCR racing. All there internals will go in the block. bored 20 over with manley H beam rods, DCR custom machined pistons. DCR pro head. You have seen the custom oil pan and sheet metal intake. AGP S256-RS turbo. I will be building a twin scroll manifold. to mount the turbo. all from stainless. The twin scroll collector came all the way from Australia. It use's a dual BOV. A pretty wicked piece. The tune will come from Nigel at Brutal Fab in South Carolina. We are estimating a little above 500 at the wheel on pump gas.

Looks like a clean little car to start with, a lot better than the 65 Coronet from years past.

I'm not any good at naming cars,

but rubber band come to mind with those wheel and tires on it. but Im not a fan of the big tires

think I have seen that valiant, it is a very sharp car
