ProComp/Speedmaster aluminum heads

-
My SM's came in a box that was solid white on the out side, but open the box and all the pictures were inside and said procomp. They had taken the time to turn the box inside out but no time to replace it. :realcrazy:

Boxes are expensive man, and they must have had a bunch left over. Lucky that they don't just wrap it in brown paper.

The bare CNC castings with decent parts should make good power.

The question then becomes, after you’ve bought the heads, and the parts, and had someone go through them....... how close are you to TF pricing?
Are you saying you wouldn't check trickflow?

While I don’t advocate using any heads truly “ootb”........ depending on where you’re located and what the local machine shop situation is...... I wouldn’t argue too hard against running a premium head like the TF’s ootb.

The local builders I deal with always have the heads looked over.
The last several sets of AFR heads I’ve had through the shop were good to go ootb.
The one thing I haven’t loved with the ootb TF heads has been the guide clearance.
I’ve had a few here that were really on the snug side.
Though, the last set of 240’s I had here were fine.

I have all the parts to assemble a very good bracket motor. Probably wont start on it until after Oct ...cooler weather in the garage

360 .030 block fully machined squared honed and ready to go
scat i beam rods
scat 4340 crank 4 inch crank
KIng narrowed bearing...
SRP flat top pistons zero deck
Hughes solid cam 6468 264/268 duration at .050 .615/.621 lift with 1.5 crane rockers...might use 1.6 on intake.
Howard EDM lifters...
Trick Flow heads OOTB
Eddy 340 Victor
TTi 1 7/8 headers
mopar electronic distributor with msd 6 or 7.

Dont know which car it will end up in....time will tell....hope none of them are needy....lol

I called Speedmaster a few hours ago and inquired on the CNC Small block heads with no valves or Springs.
One thing first off is I've gotten what I believe was the same person and pretty quickly. The guy said they didn't have any bear CNC heads right now, but had 40 sets at the CNC machine shop. Said it would be about 3 weeks. I'll be interested to call in three or four weeks and see where they're at. With that said I am definitely giving these a serious consideration....

You won't be happy till you try them...... and we'll be happy to see the results !

Are you replacing the camshaft, something with more lift.

whats the cost going to be after you buy valves, springs, locks retainers and have a machine shop do a valve job and set them up?

Actually I just changed it and I'm not all that unsatisfied with it. I'd sure like to get in apples to apples. I've got fairly upgraded 596 heads. it would be nice to see what they did all things being equal ?
Believe it or not I may be setting myself up for disappointment here, but I'm really thinking I will get a little bit of a horsepower boost out of some CNC'ed aluminum heads...
If not there will definitely be a cam change LOL...

as AC DC once said pull the trigger, pull the triggerrrr...……… lol

Actually meant to post this in the Trick Flow head thread....lol

I really don’t think there is anything wrong with the stuff in them for a mild build of 350-400 hp if u keep the redline to 55ish. All the parts look nice and seem good quality. Kim
