Lots of you know Ive been involved in dozens of fund raisers over the years for car shows and benefit auctions here on FABO. This one is personal.
The elderly mother of a dear friend** -- someone quite a few of you '67-'69 Barracuda owners have known and worked with for years -- was attacked by an Akita earlier this week and has already been in ICU for four days. Her injuries are very severe, her recovery is going to be long (she nearly lost her fingers!) and shell be out of commission for quite awhile. This is truly the last thing Margaret needed after losing her husband a few months ago and being in the same sad economic boat that a lot people are suffering through right now before this happened to her.
For those of you who use FaceBook, Ive offered up a $100 Phoenix Specialty Coatings Gift Certificate to the highest bidder with all proceeds going to help Dana's mom offset her medical bills resulting from the vicious attack. This auction will run through November 22, 2013 at 12:00 a.m. Central USA time. (A separate auction for a bar of Hand Job mechanics soap is also running concurrently on FaceBook along with this auction.) If you don't use FaceBook and don't want to, you can email me and I will post your bid for you (let me know if you wish to remain anonymous). As of this writing, the Gift Certificate is at $100 and the Hand Job has been bid to $200. [Hmmmmm ....... ccasion:]
** I'm a BIG believer in Paying It Forward.
What you might not know is that in 2005, we were among the thousands of people who were wiped out by Hurricane Katrina along the Gulf Coast. My friend Dana Price, former Barracuda owner and known to the world as The TrimMaster of NWBarracudas, took it upon himself to rally the members of the Barracuda Owners Group in an effort to get some much-needed funds together to help us out after the storm. Though I've tried to help a lot of people in a lot of different ways in my lifetime, I've never been able to rightfully convey the gratitude I've felt toward him in the meantime nor had any opportunity to pay it back in kind.
Until NOW.
Dana's beloved mother is the one who was attacked by the Akita last week. It's a simple fact that I now have the chance to rally my own friends to perhaps help HIM and his mom in their own time of need. He's one of our own and they need us right now.
Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, best wishes, sharing of these auction posts, and your donations. It's all going to the best causes in existence: Friendship and helping our fellow man when the chips are down.
Donations may be made through paypal directly to [email protected].
Thanks in advance for reading this it is be most sincerely appreciated.
