Question for '67 Dart Know-it-alls

Looking through many pictures of '67 Darts has made me wonder about something. Between the tail lights. What is correct?

I've seen pictures like mine where it has a aluminum piece with "Dart GT" badge on it. Yet I've also seen pictures of where there was no aluminum piece, just the body color, with the "Dart GT" logo.

Then I've seen non GT models. Some with the body color and it says "DODGE" across the back. Then I've seen pictures with the aluminum piece that says "DODGE".

Then there are ones that have both the aluminum piece and the body color without saying "DODGE".

Was it depending on the Price Class of the car?
 
I think some people just do the car differently when they build them, if they put the correct molding on or not. If the car is a GT it will have the finish panel with the GT badge, if not it had the dodge letters, all the trunk lids regardless were still drilled for the dodge letters.
 
4th pic down has a'68 finish panel on it w/ the paint polished off.

Anybody know whose green '67 GT that is on top? NNIIICE...
 
Various trim/exterior options between base mod Dart, GT, GTS, etc.
Duster (75-76), Dart Sports, had similar tail panel finish trim options, albeit rarer on some than others. Never have seen this on demons, that being the only model I am aware of that never had it.
 
Drache........I woundered this myself. I think some of this stuff is addded..Not orig.My 67 had a 68 /69 trunk lid. Same lines but not the same at a base 67 Dart.I took the one off my 67 Parts car and its plain with just the letters no trim or panel:wack:.I know the one with the trim looking as a frame is what i believe a custom........I could be wrong. Im as puzzled as you are.
 
I got to admit..the pics you have on the thread...:DNice 67s............Mine isnt going to be orig. the pics do give me some ideas though..Thanks
 
1st picture is correct and beautiful

2nd picture is incorrect, looks like a gt without the finish panel or a 270 trunk lid (all convertibles are GT's) and in either case the GT emblem added

3rd picture is probably a 270 with side trim removed

4th is a 68 finish panel on a 67 (back up lights would have been in the center of the tail lights and line up with the raised part of the finish panel)

5th picture is a plain jane low line Dart, no 4 door GT darts but could get a 270 4 door

67 Dart GT had the aluminum finish panel & 4 trim pieces at top & bottom with the Dart GT emblem

67 Dart 270 had the 4 pieces of aluminum trim at the top and botton but no finish panel

regular Darts had the dodge letters no trim

The finish panel and trim is very hard to come by in good condition

Had my trim holes welded up before painting the car just in case I was not able to get the quality pieces I wanted for the car. I think after 19 years i finally have enough quality pieces to reinstall mine

They call it a finish panel because it gives it a finished look, I sure need mine.

the cars are 45 years old and everyone does there own thing when building a car. If I would have my way on the build my 67 would look like a 69, but by the time I restored the 67 tail lights because I couldn't get the a**hole at the body shop to work on the car and then had to take it somewhere else to get it finsihed, wasn't going to spend the money for restored 69 lights and finish panel, looking back i should have spent the money
 
also GTS had the finish panel as shown on top but only had GT on the badge. It had GTS on front fenders with 383 and 4 barrel underneath the 383,Joe

Fair enough and thanks for the info!

That damn aluminum piece of mine is the pain in arse with the little dents and scratches. I've never been a big fan of chrome anyways and would get rid of it all if I could.

When I finally start restoring my car the chrome along the top of the fenders/doors/quarters will be removed and maybe even the panel between the tail lights.

if you look at mine that is exactly what I did, removed the trim welded the holes before painting

Mine was missing one rocker molding, had dented finish panel and was planning on putting the 69 GTS stripe so removed it all.

Do plan on putting the finish panel back on and have one ready. It is very hard to get a good one. I had 5 panels, sold 2 at the Indy swap meet this month. One that had been straighted for $150 but it still needed finished, one for $75 that was not too bad and could be restored, and one I took didn't sell and it was decent, but needed restored.

The one going on my car isn't a correct piece for a totally original restored car, but looks damn good. There isn't anything original about my car so I don't care.

Thats the thing about my Dart. I don't want my Dart original. Originally it was a slant 6 VERY low optioned car. I'm turning it into my own personal "hot rod" just the way I want.

Ive got so many plans I don't know where to start :D

I'd like to change the original gauges to something more custom hot rod type of round gauges, remove the console and put in a hurst v-matic shifter, hood scoop, etc.
 
This is a timely thread!!!!! As a few knows, my Dad sadly passed away 2 weeks ago.. upon this happening and my return home for the whole thing, I find that my Dad had a 69 Dart 4 door......Guess what? He having a small engine repair shop and that's what he done after his employment stopped at Fleetwood (Coleman Camping Trailer assembly plant in Somerset, PA) He started his own business doing small engines.. and took the Dart and TRADED it on a freakin tractor!!!!! To then find that the tractor, didn't run. never done a thing about it just went on as tho the Bible says "Turn the other cheek"........THEN, I find out the tractor was a Farmall "H"... 1942.......SO, maybe he was thinking right, I dunno, I think, I would have kept the Dart, myself.......

Dark Green car, FACTORY, and a turn key garage stored car too........ I even got pictures of it..........AND I happen to know the guy he traded it too......
