Question regarding torque converter

I have a 73 Dart Swinger that I am putting in a 1978 360 with a 904 trans rebuilt with TCI trans kit and shift improver kit. Engine is stock except heads were reworked (not ported, just valve job, milled to true, EGR capped) Cam is a crane C cam specs are sumtin like 288 288 .456 lift not sure overlap, aluminum single plane streetmaster, Holley 600 4 Barrel vacuum secondaries, 1 5/8 headers, 2 1/2" dual exhaust, 8 3/4 rear with 3.23 sure grip, 15" rims with 29 or 30 tall tires.
My question is, a buddy of mine thinks that the stall converter from the stock /6 with 904 will work fine behind the 360 in the 904 setup. I have the B & M flexplate so balance is not issue. Will this converter stall higher like he thinks because it was for a slant 6? Will it survive? Any help would be greatly apreciated.

This is true, and here are the facts.Smaller motors with automatic trannies requirer a higher stall convertor to accelarate. Most common diameter convertors are the 11&12 inch type. The /6 and 318 use the 11" type and have the 24 spline input shaft. What you want is the 77 &up /6&318 convertor as a stock unit to install,if you do not wish to spend any amounts of cash on a convertor and have one lying around.I wound check the jegs and summit sites for a convertor price too,as they are low cost. The mounting lugs are 5/16 and if you find one with 7/16 bolt holes, keep it,thats a hemi convertor! If your convertor has weights on it,its a 360 or a 400 with the few exceptions of a 340 or 440 in there. How much stall do you need? or want for your applacation,a bit above stock,2500,3000 or more, please state the use of the car and we can help you further,Mrmopartech

It will be mostly street but I do want to run it out at the local track now and again so I am tryin to make it fairly stout. The manifold and carb and headers made my 318 really scream from 3000 rpm up so I assume to make use of the 360 with same set-up should require a stall that is around 3000 rpm. The slant six auto that I got the stall from is the one that was in the 73 originaly. And as I said, I have the B & M flexplate for an extrenally balanced 360 so I am not concerned with finding a converter with weights nor adding any. I just was interested to know if the converters are all the same for the most part and will survive behind a mild 360. So it is the measured diameter of the converter that belays it's size?

i'd take a look at the tranny - 78 had lockup trany's... not all converters will slide into a lockup 904.

if it's not a lockup i'd go for the mopar performance 175k - thats what I got in my 360 a body and I love it for 190 bux it's real hard to beat!

ps- you can tell a lockup quickly by looking at the imput shaft on the tranny - if the splines are all the way out it's a no lockup - if there is a non splined section on it then splines it's lockup!
