a bit way off topic but "Rainy Day Auto" is not a vendor nor a business.

It is however what I might have called it had I opened an actual shop. Which would have been my absolute dream come true. Life and college got in the way of that dream and instead I am stuck in a office cubicle for 10 to 12 hours a day.

I came up with the idea to use Rainy day Auto as a screen name because it seems like I get undisturbed work time on my cars once in a great while, so it's like my cars are saved for that metaphoric "Rainy Day".

Lately I have been getting messages asking if i have this part or that part, or if I can weld and paint this or that.
I don't sell parts as the mods might have noticed because I am a horrible seller, mainly because I am lazy and packing and shipping parts is a mega pain in the ***.

I do however buy a ton of parts. I have too many cars and I tend to buy parts for 10 different cars when logic says I should finish one..... but that would be too easy and quite frankly too boring.

I have almost every part I have ever bought here since 2011. And most are bolted or glued to some body shell that I pulled from a salvage yard at some point and got strange looks from my family as if to say "why the hell did you drag that piece of **** home"

Even still, I am not a business so don't be disappointed when I tell you that I don't sell crate engines or tubular control arms and I won't sell my stash.

In fact I am trying to think of a new screen name.

Grumpy rant over

Nice rant. I always thought you would run a great shop. I too am surprised / impressed with your vocabulary!!

Just drop the “auto”
Leave it as Rainy Day.
Problem solved.

On that note i need to change my business name.
No VW,Diesel or Weekend repair...
Had all three to turn down today.

I say dump the cubicle job and open your shop!! You already have the clientele calling, thats 1/2 the work.

After reading the Rainy Day Rant, would like to suggest something. First, most of us have gone through what you are feeling right now, not enough time for our projects, family etc.. Can make the time at work even more depressing. Sometimes have to look at the big picture, that the limited time here on earth is never long enough for everything we want to do. As you get older, seems time goes much faster and you get further behind. First prioritize family, without family and the support they provide can make everything else that much more difficult to overcome. Next is job, we all need to make a living. but if work is for just a paycheck, may be time to find something else. It is like sleep, 1/3 of our life is in bed, make it comfortable. Work is also like 1/3 of our life, make it comfortable. Last is our self, we need to be comfortable with our selves. Most of us would like many ongoing projects, but knowing there is only so much time for them, sometimes it is better for quality than for quantity. remember how we all rant about the person with 10 cars in their yard, and someday they are going to restore them? And 10 years later nothing has been done. Honesty is good, being honest with yourself is the best. Good luck, hope you feel better.

...and when you are 52 years old your body will thank you for not being bent over/hunkered down for a living....you won't be living on narcotics, wondering if life is even worth living anymore....just saying....

....or worried if you will be able to cover all your bills this month like many shop owners do when things are slow.....

or worse yet...end up losing your car/house because things WERE that slow...

just saying.....

That is why I don't complain too much about the cubicle. Benefits, last time I went to the doctor there wasn't even a co pay. I just told them where I work and they were like, "ok, you're good to go"

That's funny as I keep telling my wife is will be known as the "crazy cat lady"! We had 2 house cats, last year they went outside for their usual stroll and something got them. A cat shows up at the barn, then, kittens,.. we have taken 4-5 to get neuters, can not give away a damn cat!

Life is funny, well maybe not "funny". After 70 years on this Earth is have formed conclusions, opinions.. the list is long.
You hear the saying, " do what you love for a living, and you never work a day in your life". That is somewhat true, but don't tell that to the person about starving, no insurance, never know what , when , or where the next $ comes from. People will say, if you want to work and honest, and capable.. you will make it OK. All that came be true. You also hear, location, location, location. Everything I relative.
I see people that want to make a business out of their hobby. Yes it happens, but.... if that was so easy, everyone would quit their job and make $$$ at their hobby!!!!
I myself, I have been up and I have been down. When times were hard, they were very hard. When times where good, I was a happy man. When I was down, I was still happy, just scared!!
I made a promise to myself maybe 50 years go, that I would always work hard to have what I want and do what I want... but I would NOT work till I was so old that when I retired, and I had the time and $ to do those things, but was to damn old to do an of it!! Some work at same job hating it, thinking all those decades about retirement, just to DIE before they got there! My three best friends in life did what they wanted for a living, were happy guys. They never had a chance to retire... they never saw past 55.

Ok so business 101. Everybody in business has the same expenses. The difference between successful business and the other thing is passion for excellence. Customers can feel your passion, and are willing to pay for excellence. Before to long reputation follows and there you are.

Cubicle dweller is not good enough. Please elaborate. Since you dumped Facebook, we never talk anymore. What are you doing now? Not just a short answer either, dork. Spill the beans.

You are so correct. When we lived in Florida and saw so many people that worked too long. They would retire and in a few years they were sick or dragging a oxygen bottle around. It is a fine line but don't wait too long to retire.

I just figured what I wanted out of life, and decided I would do it while I was physically and mentally able, back in my "youth". Now at age 70, I still do , but I am pretty woreout and now not physically able to do things like I could when younger. Glad I did not wait till I retired to do my choosen.
I rather make $10 outside, than be paid $100 inside, Just me.

Anyone need some really good cats!???????
