The u bolts have a flat on the U end of the bolt, and the nuts are self locking.
The torque spec will be in the Factory Service Manual. IIRC it is like 45 lbs.
Too much and/or the wrong U bolts WILL crush the axle tube.
I am assuming 8 3/4"
Dana 60 and 7 1/4 are different tech
I have a housing I bought from only seeing photos and the tube is crushed at two u bolt locations. It even says so in the FSM.wanted to make sure I use the correct torque and did not realize too much would crush the axle tube....Thanks
I hate it when I remember something out of the blue for no good reason! The torque spec will be in the Factory Service Manual. IIRC it is like 45 lbs.
Thanks for the confirmation and yes Dana67Dart you were spot on, so 45 ft lbs it is.I hate it when I remember something out of the blue for no good reason!
Thanks for the confirmation!
You WILL crush the housing tube.45 lbs no way!!... 1/2 in fine thread u bolts I would start with 75 lbs, drive the car re torq to 85lbs.Then recheck after a week and and torq to 90 lbs...
Some of those 4x4 1/2" U bolts require 125 - 150lbs
