rearend break-in ? ?

A blind man could see where his response came from. Look at your response he responded to. You brought up fuel and he responded. Why can't you just answer the question without all the extra hooha?

First - good evening triple-R ! How's the family ?
Second - how much hooha is exceptable ? (If any?)
Third - do you at any point plan to ad anything substantial to this thread ?
Fourth - I wasn't asking you! LOL
fifth - I'm old and i forget about stuff
sixth - where was I ??
Seventh - where am I !!!!
HERE YOU IS !!
My comment was not directed towards you.

on jack stands ran it through the gears...forward and reverse...drove it on the trailer...

unload from trailer...drove to staging lanes....made pass...nothing broke...so they are broke in.....

this is all you need to do if the gear set is setup properly.
did you put a drain in ? it's so simple and durable, just drill a hole offset ring gear, tap it and plug it, done !

Drilled and tapped 3/8 ×24 :thumblef:

NEXT QUESTION ------ concerning the inner housing seals? Guy (fella for the southern members) I get it from
says by the way those inner seals are new and you'd be wasting money changing them. So I'm getting the housing cleaned up today and I noticed one seal was different than the other ? The driver's side has single lip towards the inside and the passenger side is a double lipped seal? Is this correct ? Thank you for everyone's help on this!

Are you sure the pasangers is a double seal, or is there a dust lip on it towards the axle flange? You only need a single lip, facing toards the oil. But better seals will have that outer lip too - I believe it's for dust primarilly, but it helps keep the grease on the wheel bearings if you have the factory tapered bearings.

Thank you again moper . I did put the green bearings in as its easier with the spool and well a nice upgrade.

I did not do any break-in on my 8 3/4 other then running it in gear until warm and then let cool until the next day.

took it to the track and raced it.

The next set of gears i just might put a little bit more thought in to break-in..................

well on the break in ride I actually made it four miles and that was all I could take!! I turn the corner grab second, went to go into 3rd and it stuck in second!? #-o Had to run second all the way home #-o oh wait a minute - the back story is much better. so after collecting parts for nearly a month for my new 8 and three quarter and I finally take a day to assemble everything. loaded up underneath the car. everything is going like clockwork until the very last bolt. wait for it, wait for it? the last bolt in the yolk strap in the rear end snapped off in the rear end! okay so I go down to the parts store get the drill bit and easy out that the guy at the store talked me into which I believed too small. I drill through the bolt or what's left of it, go to use easy out and it doesn't feel right like its going to break off? so instead of letting that happen I go get the bigger one that I wanted ( trip number 2) and bring it back. Drill through and put in ez out and it breaks off! then I give up by now I've spent the whole day putting the rear end like clockwork and had this happen. :banghead:so the next day I go down to harbor freight and by the left handed drill bit and this finally gets it out. then I get the neighbor too pump the brakes for me while I bleed the rears. and back to the beginning of the story I test drive, it sticks in second gear for the reminder of the ride back home. I get home and find out it's just the shifter need to be lubricated which hadn't been done in over a year? which was a major relieved after all that work I just got done doing and money spent. I felt the rear end when I got back and parked the car and it felt slightly warm to the touch but nothing in the neighborhood of a hot.

I guess I have been getting lucky! Didn't realize there was so much involved in a rear end break in.

It's one of those things that certainly can't hurt and can certainly help. Not doing it doesn't guarantee failure. But the same philosophy applies to camshafts, rings, etc. Just like it's good to "warm up" before strenuous exercise.

I always thought for cams it was pretty much a mandatory thing as well as the rings. Normally I just let the car run on jackstands with a new rear end but like you said "it couldn't hurt"

Yes, but some people, particularly with milder combinations, have successfully run engines without all break-in options, like reduced spring pressures on cams. I'm just tend to be over-cautious.

Breaking in the motor in was pretty easy, it likes being above 2500 rpms. but, taking it for a mellow ride for an unknown amount of time is the equivalent of taking a lyon for mild walk through a chicken house, it just will jump out of its skin at some point won't be able to take it. Like I was saying I made a hole four miles of relatively mild driving before I couldn't take it anymore started banging some gears the cars just is not mellow any more.
