I figured today is definatly a big turning point to my project, and as such deserves a new thread...it also allows me to vent a little about what just happened to me.

Today i just got out of an exam and was driving to go to work, Traffic was backed up at a light and i had come to a stop for 2-3 seconds. I was about 50' away from the next car in line so someone else could get out of a parking lot. I dont remember much, but i do know i had my foot buried in the brake when the car rear ended me. They hit me so hard that i got pushed 50' with my tires locked up into the car in front of me. The driveshaft yoke is pushed into the t56, and pushed the engine far enough forward to shear the rubber motor mounts. Luckally im ok, just a broken nose and 5 stitches. Even with my fuel cell in the trunk and an AN fitting getting hit, the only fuel leak from my car was where the braided hose got pinched in the subframe..Heres the pictures of the aftermath:

I found a couple donor shells to swap everything over onto; sadly mines too far gone...
I want to make a better structure to mount the fuel cell, and connect the transmission crossmember into the subframe connectors. Im thinking while im working on the body i may as well mini tub it too...Im also thinking of making the duster flat white with a flat black hood, underside/ engine compartment grey. What do you guys think i should change?
 
That sucks big time dude! Glad to hear you faired better than the car. This is one of my biggest fear spending time and money on a project car. Will you be receiving any help insurance wise with the re birth of dustbull?

I don't know what to suggest as I don't know your current components are. Maybe suspension upgrade? Coilovers front and rear.

and with the mini tub (make your wheel housing flush with the Frame rail) and a 3" spring relocation kit you'll have a much stronger and better handling car.

Also you're a better person then me! I would've been outta that car so fast to beat the living **** out of the person who hit me!!!!!

Thanks guys, thankfully I walked away ok.. It was a ford focus in one of the pics that hit me. The car behind the focus said they didn't see their brake lights go on at all, so they hit me (stopped) at 40-50mph.

I hope insurance is going to help me out a lot on this..I'm insured and they should be too, but had no physical proof they presented to the police. I was about to lose it especially when some kid got in my face to tell me to watch myself because I said "you need to learn how to drive" to the girl in the focus..I could've said worse, they were all laughing like it was a social event while I was crouched over crying w/ a bloody face (yes, I'll admit it and I'm not ashamed haha).

Getting rear ended has always been my fear, I am a very safe driver, but can't control the people behind me.

I have a dream of making a custom front k member with c4/5/6 vette suspension..I don't like the mustang ii stuff I think alterkation comes with. I would love to do a rear 4 link setup, and planned on doing it down the road as well but well see what I have time to put in.
 
Damn it is so sad to see this happen to you bro you are a gentelman cuz if it was me that guy would eat a big knuckle sandwich since i cant hit the girl, there is so many stupid phone texting MOFOS out there that sometimes i just don't want to drive anything but my truck, if someone rear ended me they will be eating glass and my tow hitch if is the front the will eat glass and a big 1 5/8 round tube 4130 prerunner style custom front bumper i custom made attached to the chassis the good ol fashion way, my truck will be messed up but i am sure they will be hurt more than me!
 
Damn-that was a hit! Glad you're okay. A testament to Chrysler superiority in engineering!
 
Thats jacked up in more ways than one. Glad you are ok. Happens everyday with lifes distractions mostly the texting. Think you might want to start looking for a replacement car. Just amazing the hit and damage. I'm not sue happy or anything in fact I'm against it, but you did get hurt and lost a car. You might want to talk to a attorney on that one. They will probably really try to screw you on the car just because it's old.
 
Wow! Glad you're alright, make sure you get xrays bro....even if you don't feel it yet.
 
That's brutal, glad you're OK. Make sure you get a lawyer. Remember their insurance is required to make you whole, yet they will still try to low ball you. Make sure to see a doc as well.

There are a ton of associated costs with getting a new car and swapping everything over so don't accept their first offer. Good luck!

I agree with this. You may also have back/neck issues down the road from a hit like that. Protect yourself and get some legal advice.
 
For some reason I knew it was a female driver before I even read down the page. I know the feelings... I got T-boned by a female who all out ran a stop sign in my 68 Charger! Sent my to the hospital with my car totaled.

Sorry to hear bud...how you kept your composer with dude stepping in your face is amazing.

Get fully examined before you sign off that you are OK. My neighbor did that and he had problems later on but had to pay out of his pocket.

holy crap at first that makes me wanna:violent1: then :pukel: and maybe :crybaby: I hope you get it all sorted out, if the insurance company offers a payoff you have two choices: keep the car and take abit less; or surrender the car and take abit more money. personally I would choose number one because then you have parts to build another. hopefully you had an apraisal done before the accident if not you get blue book value
 
Hey Dustbull hope this all works out in your favor.But let me ask you are getting a LIE-R (Lawyer)And what did you have your car covered for and with who ? Hope you have all your recipes it will go a long way in getting you what you DESERVE.I know you can replace the car but every car has a special spot that you will always hold close to your heart.

That car was hit so hard I'm not sure if anything would be useable. The rear end could be bent. Surely the trans is jacked after pushing the motor forward. I would wonder if the motor is even ok

Man, that is why I am converting my 68 fish to a 67 trunklid and taillights. Might even get a 3rd brake light put in. My guess is the person who hit you was doing something else like chatting or texting and you should do all that you can to recover not only the expense of your car but medical and whatever esle you can. Retain a good lawyer and try to get the cops to subponea their cell phone records as evidence in the case. That is a case of pure negligence IMO. I am not a lawyer but get me on that jury...

Man Oh Man sorry to see this, and am glad your okay, this has been my fear also I live in Ohio and go to the Thumb in Michigan every year with my Dart to see my buddy there and can't imagine how this felt well I can but hope everything gets work out for you.

Thanks everyone for the wishes and all..like i said im ok, my nose is fractured and i have 5 stitches in it. but as soon as the duster got loaded on the flatbed i went to the hospital and got xrays and checked out ok, had them make note that it was from the car crash..

Ive never been in an accident before and it is all pretty overwhelming. I have National inc insurance, but i would assume the girls state farm will be paying me..if its a legitimate account # she gave the cops (she had no proof on hand). I am very against sueing for every little scratch that someome gets, but if insurance doesnt pull through (or if it turns out she didnt have any insurance) ill be looking more into that.

Ill definatly be keeping the car, not surrendering it over, theres too many custom pieces that id have to remake, too many aftermarket parts to order, theyd never give me what it would cost to remake as far as im concerned. I did keep like 90% of all the reciepts it took to build the car, so i do have that as well. Im sure the engine is in good condition. The transmission housing is good, a bearing or two mightve been taken out with the lateral load it had on it, but otherwise it seemed to shift of, clutch still worked. The radiator, fuel cell are all untouched..I think the hardest part of the swap is going to be switching over my painless wiring, and even that shouldnt be too bad.
 
Ouch...Really ouch. Glad you got out mostly intact. I'd hate to see how things worked out if you had a standard tank and lines in the car.

I'd start filing claims with your insurance. Your insurance will go after her insurance. Let them fight it out.
 
Her insurance already called me before I could get to mine, I havnt released the car to their insurance, Ill be calling my insurance in a minute to see what I should do.

I wouldn't release the car to any insurance company, they can come do an assessment of the damage in your yard without the car so much as turning a wheel
