I guess the price of that ashtray is all relative to the engine size of the car it was being bought for. If the winning bidder had bought that NOS ashtray for his /6 car it may have only cost $125.00. Lol? Bottom line, something is only worth what someone will pay for it!
If I paid that much for an ash tray and my wife found out. I would be missing a vital part!

I dont care what the ashtray is from, that is just way to much money to be paying for an ashtray. Just flick the ashes out the window and throw the cig or cigar out the window.
By the way, the ashtray in my Chrysler 300 was never used, wonder if that could bring 200 at least? HA! (My 300 has 7 ashtrays by the way)

If 7 people are bidding to get the price that high, then they must be pretty scarce. Have you guys ever tried to find a GTS trunk finish panel for a 68 Dart? If you did you would know that an NOS goes for $1000, a restored one for $700, and good unrestored for $400. For a 1lb piece of stamped aluminum that probably had a value of $2 when new.
What about a set of A-body big block manifolds? $600 used, $1500 NOS.
GTS Dart Hood? Try $900 for one you still have to paint.
What about the front fenders for 1968 Hemi Dart? $???,??? Forget it, you can't count that high!
Its not what the part is, its how hard it is to find? If you spend 2 years looking for a good used ashtray for a $500,000 car, then $615 is a drop in a bucket. And you are wrong! Take that $500,000 car and a dirty, rusy ashtray could de-value a car of that magnatude by $5000 or more! Especially if the part is so hard to find. So in reality, if that ashtray is going into Panther Pink 70 Hemi Cuda Convertible, then it is worth every penny you pay for it. If that same ashtray is going into a Green 318 Baracuda with a 3 speed, then you are an idiot for paying $615.
Its all a mater of perspective. Now, I wish I had a few NOS E-body ashtrays hanging around.

Hey guys, I think this was the first time I was happy that the person put some crappy pics on ebay. The console I bought had really bad pictures and the guy described it to look pretty bad, so no body really fought for it. I was going to completly customize it anyway, so looks didnt matter. Got it the other day and that guy could have easily brought 130.00 granted the chrome was pitted but not nearly as bad as he made it seem. That and all of them seem to have a lil' bit of pitting anyhow.
Anyway yeah I am happy for the price, but considering how much $$$$ I have dumped into gathering parts over the last 2 months, it was one more dip into the account! LOL Yeah the wife will probley kill me soon! lmao! lata' guys

There is the problem now even a crapy ashtry is going to have a minimum bid of $400
so the guy with the green 318 3 speed baracuda cant aford an ashtry
By the way i just got my a-body console in the mail today and dam i lucked out it had a crappy pict and the guy did not bother to wipe it off so 80 bucks later its at my house icleaned it up and i can run it as is, thing looks great so ebay is not all bad
