I sold my gmc to buy this ramcharger. Proof of rebuilt motor and tranny to boot! For some reason though when the kick down linkage was reinstalled whomever did it didn't install the correct carburetor bracket. As you can see in the photos, the return spring pulls the linkage too far foward. I'm thinking about installing a couple short bolts to hold it in place until I can get the correct bracket. One in front of the carb linkage and one behind. Anyone know the pros and cons to this idea?

Are you having problems with early/delayed shifts? Reason I ask is that the position of the linkage in the pics looks pretty much normal to me...

Just make sure that the kickdown lever at the trans is in the full forward position when the throttle is closed. About the only thing I would change is to replace the spring on the kickdown linkage with a shorter one that would hold the linkage in the full forward position once the free end of the spring is connected to the throttle linkage stud. Sorry to take up 2 posts but my coffee hasn't kicked in yet...

Rather than gauge it when the throttle is closed, make sure the throttle lever at the transmission is all the way back when the throttle is open. If you experience delayed or harsh shifting from there, then adjust as needed. The only thing I see "wrong" is the position of the spring on the kick down rod. It should be attached to the carburetor linkage stud, but you will probably have to get a shorter spring for that.

proven to work and have used this method many times to get correct pressure on kick down linkage for the perfect shift points.

I'll check it all out later in the week. It's too damn wet and cold for me at the moment lol! I've always read the the little "u" rod is supposed to be verticle, so I wanted to confirm that it's ok. It does not seem to shift funny, but I also haven't driven it much. Had to order a pressure line for the power steering as that ruptured on my way home with it. So I'll get more/better info in time. Thanks guys

How do you mean? I didn't know they made a cable setup

With a bolt through the linkage slot, how is the throttle supposed to open all the way?
That linkage is supposed to be all the way back when the throttle is wide open, so if there is a block/bolt in the slot how can the throttle continue to open when the linkage hits the max travel?

(It can't)

Exactly. I am done with all the stupid arguing. I have resolved to speak me piece and move on. Some people you just caint tell anything to.

Chuck, I didn't mean that directed at you, just in general. I think you understand.

Ok. I was able to crawl under it and get a panorama of the linkage. It's pretty close 1/4's under there with the exhaust and such

No problem at all. Glad to help.

Here's one I enhanced the exposure rate to bring out the details on everything.

That looks a lot better. I still need to check the adjustment on it. My wife wasn't feeling well enough to help out.
