Which voltage regulator?
P4529794 or P3690731

ACDelco starter relay fine?

Thanks,
Wes

I wasn't real sure since it says for racing applications only...lol

I can't find the thread right now, but there's one around here somewhere, where someone said that labeling them "race application only" is BS .. I've had the chrome one on my Duster for years, and it's been street only so far .. I think it's finally shot so I just ordered a new one ..

The standard electronic voltage regulater from autozone is fine for most applications, AT 13.00 !
Race cars with the battery in the truck may suffer a slight voltage drop , depending on size of battery cables used.
On the other hand, a constant over charge in your basic passenger car will cook the water out of the battery. There goes your battery tray, underside of the hood, and battery life.

nothing wrong the delco relay. the race only one regulator will kill your battery.

My car had the race only regulator on it when I bought it and it overcharged the battery. I checked it and it stayed constantly at 15.0 volts even when the battery was fully charged. After about 20 minutes of running the battery would be boiling and stinking bad.

Kenny are you sure your talking about the voltage regulator? Reason I ask is the only race only regulators I've seen were blue or black. The race ignition boxes are chrome.

Yea Tracy, I think I screwed the pooch, but maybe not .. I got this one form JEGS and put it on today..

It sure looked chrome to me in the picture, just like the one in my car, except the one in my car is chrome and rust... My ignition box is chrome as well..

Turns out it IS blue one .. I threw it on anyway and it's charging a lot lower now, right around 14.2 -- 14.4 .. I don't have a really expensive battery in the trunk, so one of these days I'll run it for a half hour ride or so and see if it's cooking .. It might be ok though, no ??

Maybe your original is an aftermarket and that's why it's chrome. I've only seen Mopar performance ones.

If it's only charging 14.2-14.4 you should be fine. The half hour ride would be a good test. If it's much over 14.6 when you get back your on the edge. Batteries are different though. Some will take more and some start boiling anything over 14.5

Wes, if you`re putting that `70 + voltage regulator on your 67 B`cuda the mounting bolt holes are spaced differently.

I don't doubt that, but I'm sure it was put on back in the late 70's -- early 80's, so the memory is a little fuzzy .. Funny, the blue one is identical in shape, and like the chrome one, only two of the three mounting holes are useable. We'll see what happens..

Thanks

The BEST way to do this is to use the fractory 70-up regulator, but you'll need to use a alternator with 2 field terminals. You'll have to run 1 wire from the second field terminal (I'm not sure where, but its a simple hookup try tech spots for where). Don't waste your money on the blue MP part. Some companies are remaking the factory 69-down regulators with electronic guts. That would be another way to go, but stay away from the MP piece.
go to bigblockdart.com and check their tech section for rewiring for late alternator and regulator.

Thanks Don, but a little late right now as I already installed the blue one.. I don't think I'm going to be doing too much street driving so I'll see if it boils the next nice day I take it out.. At least it's down to 14.2 from almost 16 Volts, so we're headed in the right direction..

Wes, sorry for the hi-jack man..

Kenny
