Removing Rust / Corrosion from 904 Valve Body & Stiffener Plate?

Hello all,
In the midst of a LA-904 rebuild, the valve body stiffener plate and valve body have rust or some corrosion on them.
Any ideas on how to remove and clean?
Wire wheel on the stiffener plate?
1000 grit on the valve body?
Using mineral spirits as a solvent.

Soak them in white vinegar. Keep a watch on the aluminum though. It doesn't need to be in there a long time, but the steel plate can stay in as long as needed.
