is it possible to do a piston ring job with out pulling the motor, 225 slant six

yes, if you can get the oil pan off while the engine is in the car. If the cylinders have a lot of ridge and are worn/scratched, a re-ring job won't do much good.

Personally I've never done just a "rering" mostly because there's usually other parts that need to be replaced like crank bearings. Also I wouldn't want to do a hone job with the crank still in place and expect to keep everything clean.

My father replaced a connecting rod, piston, and rings in an old taurus he had. The head gasket went and twisted the connecting rod. He jacked her up and pulled everything out the bottom. He put another 200,000 km on it before he sold it. Old thing rotted out before the engine went.

Guys used to brag years ago about replacing a piston without pulliing the engine. As was said earlier it would be impossible to keep things clean and think about torqueing the mains and rods while lying on the floor. You would be having bearings slipping out, it would turn into a nightmare. MY .02, Its bad enough with the engine out.

They are tough engines and you may find there isn't much cylinder wear but the honing process (minimum for a ring job) would introduce way too much crud if done in-car, esp as simple as a slant sixer is to pull. (Warning... old fart 'back in the day' story coming) When I was 17, I replaced the crank/oil pump in a slant-6 in just under 4 hours and outside in a driveway (had no garage). I pulled the engine out and placed on a portable engine stand. I did NOT pull the pistons.

I am sure I got it dirty but I ran the guts out of it for two years before we sold it with strong oil pressure and pep.
