"Rookie-Touring" '69 Dart

Hey swiss, I love the rendering, I would love to get mine updated with the changes I've made since I had it done a year ago. Would you mind letting me know what that cost you? PM if you want. Thanks.

Just looking at your rendering,it's awesome BTW. Your hockey stick stripe is going to be a shade of gray,or closer to an aluminum color? I think it should match the wheels but your wheels are a mirror finish aren't they? In the renedering the color matches very well and limits the number of different colors on the car. It's just me but I don't like to confuse the car with too many colors or too much chrome/bling. Just my .02 .The car is amazing!8)

Ok,I'll go back to my corner.

Dreno, good eye on the stripe color and contrasting wheels. I was going to keep the wheels polished but will have them powdercoated before the car is on the street. I agree with you completely. I don't want too many different colors confusing the scene. Eventually, probably after I'm finished, I am going to have a set of Forgeline VR3P's built and have them done in a silver finish.

Tin, I'll send you a PM. Good thought also on the door post and vent frame, I'll check it out.

Hey Will, I love the rendering and pretty much everything else you're doing with the car, but if you don't mind a little constructive criticism, I'll offer an opinion.
I think the stripe on the front fender should be raised a tad. The way it is designed, I believe, you are trying to give the car the appearance of having more "rake" than it actually has, not at all a bad concept, but to me it makes the car look more boxy in the front. I think the bottom of the stripe should drop ever so slightly from the height where it meets the door, and the top of the stripe should follow more the contour of the top of the fender at the leading edge, and rather than starting it right at the headlight bezel maybe bring it back about 2" with kind of a blunt point, similar to the factory stripe on the Dusters.

The above is strictly my opinion, take it for what its worth, or for futher options press 1, if neither of those work for you, you can just ignore me. lol

Thanks for the feedback Darwin, always willing to listen to an opinion. We'll see what happens when I start laying the stripe out for paint, it may change slightly but the overall concept won't. It wasn't designed in a way to give the give more of a raked look but now that you mention it, I see that as well. We actually did give it just a slight rake, 1/2" - 1". We did this because when the car was sitting level, the curvature of the stripe gave the impression the rear was sagging. I will certainly keep your comments in mind when I get to laying it out though. Thanks for the feedback.

Haha... wow! That rendering looks pretty similar to what we're doing! Love it! You gotta let me know how the Viper IRS goes in!

Tell me more about what you're doing. Have a build thread? I don't think the Viper IRS will be too difficult. I'm pretty sure I'll have to shorten the bat wing, but other than that, a couple brackets, some bent tube (I need to get a tube bender), and I'm all good.

I tried your link to Mascoll designs and got a nasty warning.I saw some of his other work on the protouring site,it's something else! Don't know how to find out more,I have some ideas for paint on my car ,would like to have someone work up some drawings. 8)Just went back to look at his drawings again, your Dart and the other Dart(black) and leaps and bounds nicer than the other cars IMO. One of the big reasons is that all the other cars have flaired wheel wells, the Darts do not.I like that look so much better.Ok finished blabbering.Sorry, just one more thing and I know you thought about it,but the car looks so clean I would have thought you would shave the door handles. Enuff DRENO,shut up!

How did I miss this thread :read2:Thank you DRENO 8)for bringing this to our attention
swisswill sure has talent and the rendering / art work and idea's are fantastic and top shelf. Thank you for sharing this with us swisswill Good to hear you have it rolling along.
Know I can find this thread :happy10:

Lookin good swiss, btw, bet you didn't notice this, but count your lugs on each wheel. they have 6.

Dreno, I have a couple email addresses for Shawn; [email protected] and [email protected]. I noticed that about his site too and I'm not sure what happened. Thanks for the comments. When I started working with Shawn it was prompted by a desire to see a wide-body Dart. I was considering a deal on a complete Viper rolling chassis to stuff under the body of my car but would have required about a 2" flare at each corner. Needless to say, the Dart body lines do not lend themselve well to flares and it didn't look right. We tried a few different styles and I just wasn't feeling it. On top of that, the Viper rolling chassis is COSTLY!!! I have also thought about shaving the handles, not yet fully decided but leaning against it. The reason behind not doing it will likely be for emergency entrances or exits. I do plan to track and autox this car when it's finished, and if things get a bit hairy in the turns and I end up in a wall, I have a fear about safety persons not being able to get in the car because there are no handles. Long shot concern, but something that keeps sticking in my head.

Thanks memike. I'm pretty excited about the build coming together now. I only get to work on it a couple times a year but should see some great progress going forward.

You know, I was wondering what that other hole was for. Thanks for clarifying because now I can get back to work...

Seriously, I just took delivery of a bunch of stuff from a salvaged Viper a couple days ago including suspension for all 4 corners (everything!), e-brake stuff, CV axle shafts, front & rear frame cuts so I can build a suspension jig, electric adjustable pedal assembly, some wiring bits & pieces for the mirrors I'm using, brake booster/mc, clutch mc, anti-lock brake module, and a pair of seats. I'm probably leaving some stuff out since I'm not there to play with it all and take pics, but I'll get that in a few months. Here is how it came in the other day, and a quick shot of the seats just chilling car-side...

I also had my rendering printed on a 2'x4' vinyl banner to hang in the garage and that came out amazing! No pic of that yet though. Sucks having to rely on others to do my bidding; picture taking, unpacking/inventorying, etc., but I'm blessed to have people to do it and a place to keep and work on my junk while I'm in Switzerland.

Thanks Judge. I'm hoping it turns out HALF as nice as the rendering. That's the problem with having a bad rendering, expectations increase 100 fold...

Will, I hope you are skinny, I had those seats for a couple of years in my Dakota, for it big guy like me, they are a little painful over long distances.

hahah, I just noticed it and was like "what in the world?"

Are those viper seats? they look pretty damn good

They are Viper seats. Everything on those two pallets is from a Gen 3 Viper.

Flyboy, I'm definitely NOT a big guy, sort of... I'm 6'6", but only 195 pounds and fit. Not bulky muscle fit, trim and fit. I plan on staying this way too so I'm not too worried about the seats. Funny you mentioned you didn't care for them on long hauls. They reactions I've read are about 50/50. I didn't pay much for them at all and they are actually a second option. I've got an early 70's bench with fold down arm rest that my wife wants to use but I'm not convinced I'll be able to because I'm channeling the body of the chassis I'm building, making the trans tunnel too tall for the bench. We'll see, and I have those for "just in case". If I don't use them for the build, I'm going to turn them into office chairs...

FINALLY my turn!!! It's been a long year of watching everybody here making progress on their builds, ordering parts and tools, only to have them lie in wait. But now the game has begun, for me anyway!

Got back to Michigan late Wednesday and spent Thursday running around trying to get things cleaned, organized, boxes opened and unpacked, taking inventory of all the new stuff, and other prep work. Also dropped my rear-end off at Drive Train Specialists to get it assembled with fresh internals, 3:73 gears and a fresh posi since the spider gears were slightly roached (Viper guys...).

Friday I started working on my chassis table but ran into problems with my welder and band saw. Thought I had the issues with my welder worked out but not so much and I finally caved in and bought a new wire liner yesterday. I bought a new plasma cutter (love that thing) and welder in November but the welder was damaged in shipping so I'm waiting on parts for that before I use it and was holding out on a liner but had to cave because my welds were looking like globs of "i-suck-ness". Chassis table is now finished though I may go back, grind down some glob and clean up some of the welds. (it's embarrassing). I finished the table before having to quit for the evening yesterday so I didn't have a chance to level it out. I'll take care of that Monday morning, all while praying for minimal distortion... Here is a pic of the table.

I am also still working on my band saw. I did buy a new one from H.F., but I don't want to keep it and haven't opened it yet. After examining what they had on display and talking with my dad and a couple other guys, I learned the spring on mine is WAY too small which is dulling my blades way too fast. I also found that the key to hold the drive pulley in place had fallen out which is why it wasn't working. I'm going to pick up a new spring Monday and a new blade and I should be good to go with that. Monday I'm going to set the car on the table after I get it leveled, then start assembling the Viper frame sections and suspension pieces to get it mocked up and build a suspension jig. I'll also be cutting out (love the plasma!) the floor and frame rails at the same time.

Onward and upward baby! Good stuff is going down. But it's freaking cold here!!! More pics to come as I get the good stuff done.

Good to see ya back at it Will.Workin right thru Christmas? Chassis table looks solid.I will be checkin in on your thread.Get yourself a heater, even if you haven't got an insulated garage, better than nothing. Have a great Christmas and a frame straightening New Year, lol. 8)

Good to see more Michigan builds going on! Love the car cant wait to get back to mine in Lansing

this is not a drill?!!!!

it's not a knife either...

Dreno, I definitely have a heater, in fact I have three I'm using. Generally I just use them in the morning then turn them off after an hour or so and crank one or two back up later when needed. It's been working out okay so far. I'm looking forward to getting back on it in the morning.

More updates tomorrow.
