SAD..Seasonal affective disorder.. how do you northern guys deal with it?

Have kids, they’ll keep you busy all the time. For me, Monday night is band practice, Wednesday’s are wrestling meets, Friday’s are date night with Nella and Mama, Saturday is horseback riding or wrestling tournaments, and Sunday is my day in the shop. It’s 6:00am, we just drove 1 1/2 hours through the driving rain, in the dark, to go to a wrestling tournament. There’s not a day that going to the barn with Nella doesn’t lift my spirits high! Want action in the winter? Have kids, or rent mine! They work for food!

Dang Ians getting big and Nella is as lovely as ever. Thanks for posting the pic!

I tried to commit suicide, almost succeeded, killed the guy next to me.... :BangHead:

I always used to think this was just baloney lazy bullshit. I'm in central Wisconsin.. go to work in the dark, sit in a office with a small window up above my head I can't see out of. Leave in the dark. When I get home, I just want to eat, and go to bed. No ambition. Lots of thoughts during the day..and just no energy to do anything. In the summer, the wife has a hard time getting me to come in by 10 on a weekday, having fun doing stuff. It's almost 8:30 and I'm not in bed yet.. odd for me right now.
Just wondering if any of you get this way in the winter.. and what you do, if anything, to get motivated.

I used to hate the summers here in Phoenix over the decades i have learned to appreciate the weather here as a whole instead of focusing on July and August. Clearly I can't empathize with your situation, heck I miss the sun after 1 or 2 rainy days although there were many years I " thought" I wanted to shovel snow. Dealing with no sun back there for as long as you do sounds like a big challenge. There's no magic bullet for the blues IMHO, starting with one small step has always helped me to take another. Load that tool belt with all the good tools you need to put a smile on... grow lights, hobbies, new experiences and relationships are a must too, we are hard wired to be social for sure. My wife and I have been through a lot, and for the bigger stuff we chose intensive courses on communications and leadership. Some of these done together some individually all of which helped both of us keep moving forward and deal with life's challenges. Exercise has always been huge for me, I've been mountain biking for 10 years and it beats stress, boredom and the blues every time. I sure hope things improve for you, I get that way too even without the gloomy weather and it is surely no fun.
Hang in there

I have absolutely no understanding of why people would choose to live in cold regions. I love being outside but being in the cold is a crappy way to live.
The air hurts my face. Why do I live where the air hurts my face? :)

I pulled up a 'sunlight hours' calendar for my zip the other day.. seems like the days are getting longer by 2 mins a day. Shortest days of the year are done, at least I can see outside now on the way home.. on the downhill part of this winter :)

We achieve a balance of 12 hrs between sunrise and sunset here on March 16th. Twilight balance of 12 hrs is achieved on Feb 24th when dawn start and twilight end are 12 hours apart.

After that, daylight just keeps getting longer!

Sweet! That's a good note to build on brother

You wouldn’t want to see most of the guys here in halter tops and short-shorts...

Dammit man, now I have to stare extra long to see if there's a bulge in the short shorts. And then if there is, I have to deal with staring at a guys junk. You've done ruined summer for me. :)
