Al's over at B-bodies with his Savoy, he's doing a once over it working out some things.
Never owned a B body so I never joined that one. I spent to much time here. Lol

I own two B bodies now! A B100 and B250Never owned a B body so I never joined that one. I spent to much time here. Lol
Much bigger bore on the 413 than most small block strokers.Exactly.
Also, people like to poo poo the 413 because of the " small " bore. But there's been many hard running 413s to be sure.
Al has and has had some very nice cars, he doesn't do anything half arsed.Al's over at B-bodies with his Savoy, he's doing a once over it working out some things.
I have a 406 that a semi-smart chimpanzee could put together, in a 2300 lb car. Went a best of 6.32/108.5 with maybe 500 crank hpI prefer small blocks, just because I prefer them. LOL
I'd like to put mine in a feather weight car and see what it would do, it's been 135 in my 3292# Dart, on pump 93. It really doesn't fit the spirit of discussion here though as it's 434".
Okay , hypothetical for you.If we are talking stock big block vs stock small block. I will take a 340 over a 383 or 400 any day of the week.

I'd guess your 434 at around 650, so.......very low 9s at 145 in my car. Maybe a high 8.

340, 10 to1,190 trickflows, Victor 340 intake 750 holley or
400, 10 to 1, 270 trickflows, victor maxwedge, 750 holley
All off the shelf parts, all available.
Appropriate headers for both, in a same weight duster (ballast the small block to make it fair )
Now which would you take?
Well, 2500 with me in it. 191 before Christmas meal, 200 now, lol.At 2300 pound I can guarantee you I would be 8.90’s.
Could be.That big block combo may be better off with the 240cc head.
.....and a shorter stroke!Much bigger bore on the 413 than most small block strokers.
Could be.
Probably depends on cam specs and rpm range. Gonna use Victor's on my 522. Bought em before there was such a thing as trick flows. 270s would be the no-brainer choice now.
My buddy has a 5.3 junkyard engine with a turbo on it, its been together for several years, nothing fancy, 698 hp at the rear tires.......probably cause you can slap a turbo on a 5.3 LS, and make the same power as a 600" big block chevy..... for about a quarter of the money.
...for a little while anyway. Five laps?
This an old racing buddy of mine's car. 80sMalibu, with a 408 LS and a turbo. Just under 1300 at the crank. My buddy has a 5.3 junkyard engine with a turbo on it, its been together for several years, nothing fancy, 698 hp at the rear tires.
Its in a truck, he pulled out of the junkyard, he fixed up the truck, he painted it, has less than 9K in the entire truck.
A lot of time, but not a lot of money spent. Its reliable, and he daily drives it in the summer.

It's soon gonna be his slow car.

The 400, but with a Holley HP950.Okay , hypothetical for you.

This car has a basically stock 440 with a small flat tappet cam, aluminum intake, absolutely nothing fancy, and it will run 9.90 in the 1/4
Solid lifter cam, aluminum intake, who knows what else.
