Scream'n 318 ?

-
We have put 340/360 heads on 318's and have yet once to have it cost us performance, but in fact always a nice gain... but what do I know  I don't even like my own advise!!! :D
You didn't answer my ?? lol :D
Did you order this stuff ?
I have the 6900 in my 73 W200 360 with Holley 2 barrel. lol
It was a good upgrade from the factory cam. works good with the 4.10's and loadflite.

so,....we went from a scream'n roller cammed 318 to a generic flat tappit 2 bbl,...and blamming 302 heads for sinking the ship....seems more like a canoe at this point!

I have known people to do it ( I knew people who did it in high school, 318 with 360 heads but we didn't know anything either, I would venture to say it would run just as well with stock 318 heads.) and like I had mentioned if you have high comp pistons instead of flattop factory cast ones it works theoretically. One would never know unless you did dyno tests etc. In mine I listened to the old coot and ran stock heads, the only thing not stock on my 318 was the cam, the 600 Holley and the 2.5 inch exhaust with headers. it didn't run bad either. it ran better than most would think. I didn't race it though ran it on the street. the closest to a race was when I blew past my buddies 95 Chevy truck on a rolling start highway race. he thought he had something special, I dusted him going about 100 MPH. The dart was haulin azz that night. I remember walking up to a woman at a bar and saying "wanna go for a ride in a fast car?" that was my pickup line ahh the good ol days...:)

ET slip can tell some things.... but like I said, I don't even like my own advice! Every one knows not to put anything bigger than a 500 cfm eddy on a stock block 318, and here this goof 318willrun put 1200 cfms on one without headers, stock converter and 2.76 gears!!!!

Its always good to try things out. 318s don't get much love but there is potential there. My one big block friend wont even run small blocks. 383 is as as small as he goes. I once asked why he said "there is not enough power in a small block" I was like wha?

What!!??? This is what it was to you as soon as you saw it would have cast heads, a canuuuu :realcrazy:

I freshened up a 318 some years back and was going to run J heads on it. An old mechanic I know advised against it,said the flat top Pistons and large combustion chambers on the 340 heads would lower compression to "run like a pooch" level. My question is, are there Pistons available for 318 that come above the deck like early 340?? To raise compression?

Keith Black has pistons for this. Small dome.
Check Summit Racing.

more like a corn kernel floating in a sea of poop. lol
I thought dirt modified cars kicked out about 600 hp with a 2bbl on a small block??? Guess those chivy guyz know how to build.... :poke:

Think... :realcrazy: No really, think..... :realcrazy::realcrazy:

I'm for whatever you decide build test or run, I like what ya do for the budget 318/360 guys.

If I was gonna do a 318 screamer with what you got, I'd use the magnum heads ported.

A teen with 0.030" 9:1 KB pistons and a light wrist pin and 'WORKED' 273 rods, we re-balanced a stock 273 forged crank and removed over 3 pounds, 4 pounds before they added mallory metal.
Then mild ported 273 heads with 1.88/1.60 Manley small stem valves, a 272 cam, a Wiand Stealth and 625 AFB. A body 340 exh into a Flowmaster Y and 3" SINGLE run back over the axle, it was real quite.
We were in the 12's in a 66 Vailant Wagon, 8 3/4 and 3.55 SG.

A rolling 20 MPH launch was brutal to many BBC guys.

We had all the parts on hand except the pistons, wrist pins and cam. Pistons were on sale so cheap.

Thank you. I may even toy with putting rocker shafts on the magnum heads... we'll see :)

A guy in a 69 Chevelle SS396 got beat 4 times, one from a dead start and one from 70 MPH to over 100 MPH. He got so pissed, he followed us into the store parking lot, did a lot of yelling and kicked the right rear quarter panel.

Both rear quarters had 22 pounds of lead shot poured in so they were SOLID as a rock and he broke his foot.

No, he did not pay the $50 he challenged us with.

LOL... Big Block chevelle getting worked over by a '66 wagon SB :D LOve it. Except the kicking part. That would have turned ugly....
