Selling help

I just sent money to a guy and the PayPal fee was 3.05%

I don't understand sellers insisting that buyers pay the 3% or send the money Friends and Family. When you're haggling with a guy at a swap meet on a $100 part, would you turn down an offer of $97? Heck no you wouldn't. When someone insists I use F&F it makes me suspicious of their intentions and I add the 3% in on my own.

To the original poster @slapstickjim like I said earlier, I would go ahead and list a couple of the easiest parts to sell here, and maybe someone local to you could buy them. That person could pay CASH, just like on Marketplace or Craigslist. When that person leaves you positive feedback you have a little credibility that should lead to later sales.
Well, I'll send F&F if it's somebody on here I know and they're good people.....like you for instance, I'd pay F&F for something from you.

Been a lil bit. Hope everyones turkey day was enjoyable. Update on getting ready to sell stuff. I finally got a checking account set up for my sell link to paypal account and partly set up paypal. Still waiting on debit card to arrive. But questions on shipping. I plan on getting those preset priced us post office boxes, that will make easier to quote shipping price. If I start selling bigger item I'll ask for advice them. I just plan on starting with small items. Gain all your trust. Question is when I sell do I just write my own address label and ship. Or do most of you prefer what? Thanks for your patience with me life sure can be busy.

That's how I do it. I make a separate address label and tape it to the box. I cover the label completely with clear tape in case it gets wet it's still legible.

I strongly encourage you to check out www.pirateship.com Once you have an account set up, you can ship directly from your home. All you need is a scale, a tape measure, and a printer on your computer. PirateShip saves you money by negotiating cheaper rates for it's members. I usually save about 20-25% off of the UPS website pricing. Plus, you don't have to stand in line at the UPS store or the post office. Just drop your package and go.

OK that will make it easy since I don't have label printer like ebay wants. And for shipping big items thanks for pirate info but for now im focusing on small stuff to gain. Your trust and see how that goes. Just want cleanup these 2 piles tbh

I have never had good luck with PayPal. I've used em about 8 times to buy things and half of those I had to dispute and fight to get that back because of one thing or another, either a shell website, or other problem. When I sell something it's either cash in person or postal MO.
Besides doesn't PP now "1099" you when your payments received exceed $600 in a given year? Screw that. I'm definitely not a business, just a gear head that needs to make space in my garage, with a real daytime job that's not in my home garage.

Most of feedback here sugest paypal. As far as that $600 tax rule from what I'm hearing it's going affect business type selling. For common working Joe like us , all we might have to do is fill out a form pertaining to this and show a general I paid x for the stuff sold it for y. And if it's a loss your fine. Yea pain but hr block does my taxes cause a rental property so I'll be fine.
But cash Is always ideal. If I'm not shipping I'd meet and take cash. Thanks for your thoughts
