Are these jackets dated? A friend has one from the early 90's I can borrow, but he has to find it. I told him I'd try to find out if it's any good now before he looks for it.
Is SFI 3.2A/1 even the same spec as will be on that old jacket? I mean, have they changed the spec?

That's good news. The car won't be raced enough to justify buying a jacket.
They rent helmets (and they must be nasty to put on your head), I would think they'd rent a jacket.
Thanks guys.

A jacket is not required to 11.49...don't know any tracks that rent jackets..

Thanks, Stroked. A jacket is also required for any non-factory power adder (supercharger, N2O or Turbo), no matter what the e.t. This car has a Paxton and will probably run low 12's.
I would think some track would rent a jacket, since NHRA came up with this kinda stupid rule. My car's no race car, I just want to know what it runs. It's just not worth buying one. Kinda like the seat belt rule; two years if it's a race belt, no date if it's the original, oooold belt. I dunno.

Just a FYI. The seat belt rule was ammended in the 2010 NHRA rule book.
I was reading the 2010 NHRA rule book, looking for something else, and found on Pg 20.37 "general regulations", 10:5 "Driver restraint systems".

"in cases where the class does not require a SFI 16.1 driver restraint system, the two year recertification does not apply".

So most of us can run a "racing" belt, that is more then two years old. (basically, as long as we don't have to run a roll bar or cage)

Many part time racers do not carry a rule book with them, so I listed the reference page/section of the rule book, so if a tech inspector questions an "out dated" belt you can point it out in his book. I would suggest keeping this info in the car.

PS: I am required to wear the jacket, due to nitrous, on a mid 13 sec car. I have not needed it, yet, but I have had a nitrous "sneeze", with a engine compartment fire. Like they say: "$hit happens".

No track would rent one because of the liability involved, oh and if the jackets are dry cleaned it takes out the built in fireretardant.

Thanks for thje FYI, Charrlie S. I'm glad to hear they finally came to their senses.
the67fish; they rent helmets though. There's probably something your signature secures for them, liability-wise.

As far as the seat belt issue, before they changed the rule, I would give the tech inspector the choice. I have a 13 sec car. My RCI belt was outdated by 1 to 2 years. My stock belt was more the 40 years old, and the belts could be changed in about 5 minutes. If the inspector made an issue of the out dated "racing" belt, I would show him my stock belt, and say "which one would you rather have me wear, I'll use which ever one you want?" Never had to remove the racing belt.
