We are thinking about getting another Redbone Coonhound. Have not been able to find a local breeder. All the breeders I have found are on the eastern side of the country....and we are in Eastern Washington. Anyone ever ship a puppy? If so, how did it work out?

Hi.... about 3500 beagles are 'thrown away" in Canada every year.

One of the adoption organizations that specialization in beagle adoption is Beagle Paws in Newfoundland. Great group. http://www.beaglepaws.com/

The reason I mention them is that they ship all over Canada and down in the USA I bit, i think..anyway, they do it by air.

They ship and you pick up at the airport. Apparently, they have had really good luck with this method.

One of my daughters breeds and sells Sugargliders and this is how they do it also.
Seems to work out ok.

Why do we pay people to overbreed selective genetic "pets" and at the same time kill homeless "stray" animals by the hundreds of thousands every year?

Go to your local SPCA or county animal "shelter".

Look around and also ask how many are "adopted out" (live), and how many are not (die) each month.

I bet you can't do it without crying.

Here is a breeder is SW Washington. At least they are closer than the east coast.

thanks for answering my questions.....and the lecture...we want want we want in regards to another dog....well aware of the amount of shelter animals.....

I drove trucks for a while (still do p/T) and I relocated quite a few banned dogs to "not banned" areas. I also brought shelter dogs and pups back from over crowded centres to my local shelter. YY1-Lots of good dogs that will make great pets but a working dog can't be just any crossbred that you don't know what you are getting. If it doesn't work then it often becomes a shelter dog at an age that isn't as adoptable. Breeds are for a reason.
Ink junkie-I can't help you but it might give you an idea
Don't forget to post a picture- they are good looking pups with their floppy ears and big paws LOL

A couple of months ago, a friend of mine got an English Mastiff, from a breeder up in Canada.
The dog was sent by air, so it got a plane ride in it's young life.
Was sent airport to airport, so they had to go down to SFO,(San Francisco) to get the dog.
The animal came through the trip all ok.

Good to know.

Been talking with a fellow on another site. One of his friends dogs just had a litter, he is going to check to see if he wants to sell any of them. Pup is in Washington. He did tell me that there is/was a couple of breeders in Washington, he just does not remember there names. He also told me that there is a family that breeds them in Montana and another in Utah. He did tell me that all of these folks do not run "puppy mills" so I will have to be patient. This guy is also going to a Hound dog convention in Oregon sometime soon, he will be looking here as well...

I do not hunt with these dogs, they are just pets. But as I said earlier we want what we want.

Might not need to ship a pup. Chatting with a guy on another site, he knows of someone in WA state that has a Redbone that just had pups. Will have his contact info tomorrow. Have spoken with a few breeders about shipping a pup, everyone of them have said it is not a big deal. They will not ship a pup to AZ in the heat of the summer, nor to the colder climates in the frigid time of the year. They told me that a pup will normally be a bit out of sorts after the flight, but by the next morning he/she will be back to "normal"....

Found a breeder in Davenport, about 30 miles from us. No pups now, but in a few months will have them. Female is not purebred Redbone, she has a bit of Foxhound in her. Pretty sure these are the folks that lived on 291 a few miles from us that breed Redbones.
We picked up Blue's ashes from the vet today. Could not hold back the tears when the vets office gave me the ashes....

Woman in Davenport appears to be a bit flaky.....fellow on another site gave me the contact info for someone who has Redbones....and another fellow that has Blueticks...course one is near Seattle, the other in Grants Pass....see a potential road trip coming up....

Finally spoke to the breeder on the coast....will not have to ship a pup....
