Update, I had the melonized gear from Hughes pressed onto a stock intermediate shaft at a local machine shop. They did not press a roll pin in it. He didn't think it should need it he said it needed over 1 ton of pressure to press it on. They did not have a roll pin from the factory. Just curious if anyone has used one without a roll pin. What size pin would you use I think it's a 3/8" hole? Not really sure. I read somewhere possibly on for a bodies only, just use a drill bit and snap it of once it's through the shaft?All the heavy duty drives had a pin.
Part of that is because back in the day guys were running 50 grade oils that were as thick as clay.
The load on the drive was incredible especially on cold starts. I know Chrysler always said to use a 50 grade oil with any tunnel ram deal.
Today I run 0w20.
That being said, I have broken enough stuff that I just build more margin in than needed.

I'm running some pretty heavy valve springs I currently have a HV pump in it but will be replacing it with a regular pump once it's broken in. Will be running 5W20
Ok, well it's in the block but far from being fired up. I can easily remove it. If you get a chance whenever possible I'd appreciate it.You know, I’m not sure what size that pin is and IIRC it’s a tapered pin.
I have a drive at home but I’m not there until Friday at the earliest.
I know if I were going to pin it I’d used a tapered pin.
