Side exit exhaust

It certainly is legal. The AAR and T/A cars would not be legal to drive in this state otherwise. I looked up the vehicle code and it is as follows:

175.75. EXHAUST SYSTEMS.
(a) Condition of Exhaust System - All components
of the exhaust system shall be in safe
operating condition as described in §175.80
(relating to inspection procedure) .
(b) Exhaust System Requirements - A vehicle
specified under this subchapter shall be constructed,
equipped, maintained and operated
to prevent engine exhaust gases from
penetrating and collecting in any part of the
vehicle occupied by the driver or a passenger,
in addition to requirements of this title for an
emission control system and smoke control
for a diesel-powered vehicle.
(1) A vehicle specified under this subchapter
shall be equipped with a muffler or other
effective noise-suppressing system in
good working order and in constant
operation. A muffler or exhaust system
may not be equipped with a cutout,
bypass or similar device and a muffler
may not show evidence of external
repair.
(2) The exhaust system of a vehicle may not
be modified in a manner which will
amplify or increase noise emitted by the
motor of a vehicle above the maximum
level permitted by Chapter 157 (relating
to established sound levels).
(3) Headers and side exhaust are permitted
if the vehicle meets the requirements of
this section.
(4) An exposed exhaust system shall be
equipped with an adequate heat shield
or protective system.
(5) An exhaust system shall extend and
discharge completely to the outside edge
of the vehicle body, including a truck
bed, or as originally designed.
(6) A firefighting vehicle is exempt from
regulations concerning exhaust systems,
mufflers and noise control.

my mufflers pretty much are T/A or AAR style...

and finally, CRANK IT UP! (I think my floats are still set too high...the rears were real high and fuel was dribbling out of the boosters at idle, so now I need to change the oil)


It sounds a lot better than it used to when I had Summit Turbo Mufflers on it.

who's mufflers are they? thats the way to do it. i can't stand when people move the muffler forward in order to have side exhaust.

They're Dynomax Super Turbo #17676, which are 2 1/2". For some reason they also outflow the more standard offset in/center out muffler they make in the same size...Says 520cfm on their website. They're also $61.95 ea.

Its hard to see but I'm holding them up in the back in order to not crack the pipes. I had to customize those cheap parts store holders a little bit though...They've got some steel "extensions" welded to them.

in PA you can not have side exit exhaust if there is #1 a rear seat,#2 if the rear side (quarter windows open), the AAR and TA quarter windows dont open,,..

# 3 inspection in PA is a farce,,its only meens is to generate cash flow to the state,,

i was trying to be sarcastic,,look at my hood,,,that isnt leagal in PA either,,lol

most all states have lightened up on vehicle inspection,some states have none at all,,PA is getting worse the calif used to be,,,

I looked in the code and couldn't find what you're saying...but I'm sure it will pass. Hopefully without having to slip them another $20. lol

hey man im sure it will go thru,,,one good thing about PA and most of the east coast,,no one cares,,,not sure where your located,,,but ide bet you will be ok,,,,im sure you have some one you deal with all the time,,,just take it there,, my inspection guy,,is getting near retirement age,,,
