Slant 6 Aluminum Performance Head

-
I posted a long time ago that article of the slant head that had all its I take runners bored at a steeper angle and tubes pressed and brazed into the bowl area.

Cars magazine 1974
Pacer or colt iirr.
.. that's the / head I want.
Cricket Wagon, "Deep Six" I wonder where that head is ….

Unless it's COMPLETELY redesigned, as in a cross flow, OR SOMEHOW move the valves around for better port configuration, I don't think there's a lot of room for improvement, other than simply being made out of lighter aluminum. The ports are already the limiting factor, and unless they are "moved around" for optimum placement, there's not much to gain, IMO. Problem is, there ain't a lot of room "THERE". This dream pops up about every couple of years, so we're used to it.
And remember, if the slant head is completely redesigned to be a cross flow, you will also need to design and manufacture new intake and exhaust manifolds as what is on market today would not bolt up. So that is another slug of $ on top of the slug of $ for the new head.

Exactly. I wonder though.......if it would be possible to design a cross flow head and use the stock manifolds? It's not like the HAVE to be mated to each other, OR on the same side. ......regardless, either manifold would be a TIGHT or impossible fit on the passenger's side. I don't believe it could be done.

Why go to a cross flow head if you plan to stay with the existing port locations and sizing?

Just have Koenigsegg build you a Freevalve Camless head ..

Pretty cool stuff. Look it up.
Infinitely variable valve timing !

Someday I hope, someone follows through on this project. But the chances of it happening get smaller every day. Not beating the OP up, just many have thrown this out and it never sticks on the wall. I wish I had a friend who could weld, I would section W2 or P5 heads and build a custom head, just like the Boss 351 head that Sizemore ran in the 70's and 80's. Of course in my Colt I don't have any problem with inner fender clearance. No dist, oil pump or fuel pump issues either.

Forget the slant six. Just run a hemi six as the Charger R/T had 302 HP from the factory out of the 265 Hemi. With just the optional Bathurst cam it produced 320 HP. Now there is a guy in Australia drag racing a Hemi Six Centura and running high sevens in the qtr but this has a turbo on it so just google "justa6" He is running a cast iron head but is in the process of doing a billet alloy head to improve his times. He is reported to be making north of one thousand HP at the moment.

Just the thought of going through all the changes needed to do an Aussie 6, at that point I'm going Eddy heads and SB, lol!!

+1. This is what happens when the subject of an aluminum cylinder head for the \6 comes up.

Each.
And.
Every.
Single.
Time.
Without.
Fail.
I have really great, viable ideas for an Al-u-minimum head that can accommodate the gamut of apps. Unfortunately I've been extremely short on time the last couple of yrs., just diagrams, sketches, & some scale drawrings........sigh..........

A shop nearby builds heads for tractor pullers. This is a John Deere head. A alcohol burner I believe. They don't need cooling passages that way.

I'm guessing that is the finished state, probably the intake tubes slip-fit into what You're lookin' at.......

I don't doubt you. You're not the only one—there have been great, viable ideas turned into great, buildable drawings and plans. What nobody has (or is likely ever to have) is the money and time and inclination and resources and facilities to turn any such drawings and plans into aluminum heads, let alone at a price anyone's actually going to pay.

....and as prolific as the slant six once WAS that's a real shame. It's the same old same old with all of Mopar. We're always on the short end of the aftermarket stick.
