Is it just me or does it seem like it takes awhile for the FABO to download on the computer?

I checked other web sites and they are fast(like normal) but when I come back to FABO it takes awhile.

i noticed the same thing... you click on a forum and it takes a bit for it to come up.

It's doing fine right now... but this morning I could walk away and have to come back lol

I use DSL and it supposed to be 3 meg and it takes a little while for the forums with a lot of pictures but here recently it's been slow on FABO.

Thanks for replying.

My laptop is pretty slow but the site jumps up pretty quick on my desktop. Was your virus scanner running when you noticed it was slow? Most scanners eat a lot of processor power and RAM.

I didn't notice if it was.

I have Norton 360.

Might want to check for that next time around. DSL or Cable internet connection? Might have been a lot of traffic on your node since a lot of people had the day off.

DSL..... I can bring the site up real fast just sometimes when clicking into a forum it takes a lttle long. Alot slower then I used to notice.

eh... it works...

I noticed it's up and down. Some days it loads up pretty quick and others it's kinda slow. Back when I had dial up it was plain frustrating at times. Ramcharger's right about a virus scanner eating up ram no matter what one you have.

I also use another browser on certain sites. Google Chrome. It seems to load stuff up allot faster. Some pages IE works better on and other pages Chrome works better. Go figure.

It has always taken a little while for a thread to load up. I have just gotten used to looking at the "gray screen" until it loads. It is the same on every computer I use some better some worse.

I have been hesitant in downloading Google Chrome, or IE 8. At one time I would download Chrome and IE 8 until I started having computer problems. I took my computer to get it fixed and had to have it format-ed. The tech (not the Geek Squad or the people at Circuit City but a private small computer place called Cyber Solutions) said that my registry was screwed up because of Chrome, IE 8, Fire fox and other stuff that I had downloaded and had uninstalled left much errors to my registry. He uses IE 6 on his computer because it has had all the problems worked out of it over the years. When Google or Microsoft comes out with a new program does not mean it works healthy.

I just noticed that FABO was running much slower than usual and the other web sites I visted at the same time was still zipping.

I agree they don't always work right when first released and sometimes it takes a while to get the bugs worked out. Sometimes they never get it just right. Do you run defrag very often on your puter? If not you should. I do it once a week. Downloading and uninstalling programs is just like putting a bunch of stuff in your garage and then taking a bunch other stuff out. Leaves open spaces and other things crowded up. Defraging yoru computer is like house cleaning and aranging so you can find stuff easier and quicker. Even then you can still have problems but it's less likely. I was having erratic problems with my computer and had 3 different so called experts here (only ones in my area) to work on it cause it was over my head. Even after all three of them tried it would still act up once in awhile and sometimes go to the blue screen of death. I found a program called PCMax and thought what the heck. I've tried everything else and it had a 30 day money back guarantee so I took a chance on it and it helped tremendously. It's a program that looks at the registry and fixes any problems there. When I first installed it it found allmost 300 registry problems. After I ran it and it straightened up the mess it has worked excellent every since. It also has another part to it called "optimize" where it goes in and shuts down programs that run in the background eating up memory and processor usage. The programs still work fine when you need to use them too. It just takes a few seconds longer for them to open up. But it makes everything run so much faster that I don't mind waiting a couple extra seconds for a program to open.

If anybody's interested this program can be found at www.is3.com

Ramcharger I know you know alot about puters. Are you familiar with MAXPc and if so do you have any comments about it, good or bad?

I've never had any problems. Do what fishy68 said, and I do, defrag it once a month. Go to start>accessories>system tools>disk defrag. Start it running and go have a beer or three.

Well I thought I had the defrag covered but I guess I didn't I had something called "set it and forget it" in which it did different things once a week and defrag was one of them. I would check it ever so often and it would say that the disk did not need defrag.

I was getting the blue screen and had to take it to get fixed.

Mac at work...instant loads. PC at home...grey screen up to a minute...then loads...MAC IS FAST!

This just was a one time occurrence for me... at the time I posted I was wondering if it was just my computer or was wondering if anyone else was slow. It's been perfect ever since.

That's is the way it was acting sure enough "grey screen up a minute..."

That sounds like disc-keeper. I have that and it's nice. It should be taking care of defreagging for you if you have the set it and forget it set right.

I think it's slow because of the ads. (ShoppingAds)

I also think some threads with large pics that are hosted on other sites contributes to the problem.

Also, if you are running an open (unsecured) wireless router, then your neighbors may be using your connection and sucking your bandwidth. NEVER run a router without setting up your security system on it. I can drive around the neighborhood with my laptop and use other peoples connection quite easily.

No kidding? Could someone use that to still peoples identity and so forth?

You bet your a$$ they can. I have used other peoples routers to surf the net. A computer literate person can hack a password in five minutes. Thats why you need SECURITY including firewalls. My son logs onto my computer when I have a problem and moves files all over the place for me from 130 miles away.

I fixed it!!!!

I was reading this...
http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/null/111811

So for ***** and giggles I downloaded Google "Chrome" and have been using it for the last few hrs and it works great. It is way faster than Internet Explorer and there are no more "gray screens" when FABO is loading. It takes a little while to get used to after using IE for ever but it is super fast!
Im deleting Internet Explorer from my laptop right now.

How do you delete IE? I've been having loads of problems lately & the research I've done makes it look like IE7 is the culprit, causing all sorts of registry problems. I've tried two different "registry fix" type programs & it hasn't helped. I've switched to Firefox & Thunderbird & would like to either get rid of IE or at least get ride of the IE7 update. Right now I've lost my admin. privileges on the computer, the only administrator account we have gets a script error when trying to access user accounts & can't find my documents folder, all of the games in the "games" folder have disappeared, can't get flash to work, & I'm sure there's other things I've forgotten. Two days ago all of the sound disappeared, says the program isn't installed. I'm hoping to have enough money after the first of next year to replace the computer, but if what we have could be made to work that would be great.

P.S. I'm using Windows XP. I'm using Norton Anti Virus & it's updated regularly. I also have windows set up to download & install updates automatically.

I went.

- Start
-Control Panel
-Add or Remove Programs
clicked on "Add/remove Windows Components" then clicked on IE and "remove"

I had to restart the computer after and I just rebooted it and it is already alot faster.
