Small block 727?

Just bought this trans today for $100. May be OK, may be a boat anchor, don't know yet. Sure it's a small block 727, but the numbers on the list I found don't go this high. Trying to figure out what year so I can get replacement parts for it.
Serial # is PK4412004 9267 2200. Pics attached. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

If that dust shield has a number on it I would appreciate it if you could give the number to me thanks it’s looks like the one I been looking for
 
PK4412004 is a non-lockup, long extension housing, A727 transmission that was originally equipped in 1987 1/2 ton trucks with 115"--131" wheelbase, and 3/4--1 ton trucks with 131" wheelbase, with 318-4bbl and a low stall converter.

PK4412004 was also originally equipped in 1987 1/2--1 ton truck all 360 applications with a high stall converter.

Took it off, brought it in the garage, hit it on the wire wheel, no numbers visible. Sorry.
 
If it’s a truck transmission it probably won’t have the boss to accept the bracket for the down rod for a floor shift trans, it that’s what’s in your Barracuda

Guess I'll be doing some fab work!
 
Does that make it longer than a typical 727? I was going to use it to replace the 904 in the 66 Barracuda.
Before you buy any parts for this one make sure it will physically fit in that 66 Barracuda. Maybe do a test install. I do not know that answer, but maybe somebody tell us if they used one of these in an early A body.
Notice in your first picture there is a steel strap (snap ring cover) with two phillips head screws holding it to the tail housing, and it is running vertical. At the top screw there are extra raised strengthening ribs. Those are not on passenger car or early truck and van transmission tail housings and it is very close to rubbing or making contact on a later 67-76 A body. I have one of those in a 75 Dart Sport and it does fit in mine but is very close.

That style of 727 is a good one to use if it fits your application. The 904 you have is plenty strong enough for an early A body. Do you need an upgrade to a 727?

There was some question as to what torque converters would be available for the 904 behind the 5.9, so for $100 I thought it would be cheap insurance if I ran into problems.

It sounds like a cool build whichever way you end up going for transmissions. I see your location is MI. What region or area are you in?
 
Same length all 727s with the long housing. Approximately 4 inches longer than a 904.
I have the original 727 that came with my 72' B300 Van that had a 318 and a 69 and 70 bolted right up to them. It is now laying on the floor in my shop along side of a 727 that came out of a 70 dart with a 340 and they both appear to look the same. The one here in the photo does have a little extra meat on the tail shaft so I would think in was added being from a heavy van. If there is a clearance problem, just pull out the die grinder. You will need to change the driveshaft to fit. It should be shorter and can be cut to length at a driveshaft shop and rebalanced. Good fine!!!! I also used the van converter all these years and it works well.

It can fit, if ya make a couple of hammer strikes. Put a 727 behind the 408 in my son's 65. Had to smash the firewall/floor seam flat and clearance the floor for the shift and throttle pressure levers. Others have not had too, so maybe it was the original mounts we used, but we also had to "mini tub" the trans tunnel about an inch and a half.
 
Dumb question. The 727 is a better trans if they're both in working condition
Though I do say that if the 904 works leave it til it croaks (it will) then pop the 727 in especially as long as you already have it
 
Dumb answer. 9 times out of 10 a 904 should go behind/stay behind a small block. It's smaller, lighter and quicker. A 727 is way over kill for most small block applications.

Except -
1. I already have a brand new 2800 stall TC sitting in the garage for the 727.
2. There is some question about TC availability for the early 904.
3. I'm not going to put an unchecked trans in behind an updated motor. Both trans' would have to come apart anyway. Not doing it twice if I don't have to.
4. Have to get a new driveshaft made anyway, so it doesn't matter if one is 4" shorter than the other.
These are the reasons I decided to just go with the 727. The fact that it's a little tougher than the 904 is just icing on the cake.
Now for the flex plate issue...oh, and the 8-3/4...and the wheels/tires...
