Wondering if going to a spool would lower my ets,Have done a search and have read all the pros and cons,no mention of quicker times.Car does 13.009 1/4 and 8.16 in the 1/8th.Really want to be in the 12s and sevens,8 3/4 with 4.56 sure grip now.I know there is a weight saveings but other than that do they really help at the strip.I only have 197 rear wheel hp so any gain is alot,60 ft is 1.69 something.Guzzi Mark

Doubtful you'll gain much if any. Slight weight savings is the main thing. Only other help it might be is it might make the car go straighter. If your sure-grip is in good shape you probably won't gain much there either. Do you drive it on the street much? If so you don't want a spool.

Back and forth to work,2 miles round trip, basically a race car barely street legal,2475lbs with me in it 62 Valiant chop top,Guzzi Mark

Well that's not much street driving so you might be ok but remember if you get caught in the rain a spool can make it difficult and possibly dangerous. Also I know a fellow that tried running one in a 78 Malibu and he kept beating them out on the street but it was a crappy Chevy 10 bolt rear. I think even a Mopar 8-1/4 is stouter than them.

Ok you anti /6 guys,if I put a 440 in my car and run mid 12s with a sure grip 4.56 gears, will going to a spool help my ets any???Someone has to have done this and has a comparrison.Mark

I would think so also,BUTT if you have a slant six here you get alot less responses or help, doesnt matter that I am a Mopar at heart person, racer, restorer.I just happen to like going fast with a slant.National record is what I am building for, hard to pry info out here that I can apply to my slant sickness.I only have 5 cars faster than me on motor.Looking for answers that apply in general.Guzzi Mark

Did you ever think that maybe that's because less people run /6's that v8's. I for one never overlook somebody cause they have a /. I don't think others do it for that reason either.

I think you are rare in that regards and I THANK YOU,we will see where this goes.Just wanna learn and know,Mark

I could see that if this question was /6 specific but it`s not. Some questions are just more popular because they deal with subjects that are more familiar to the members. There may be a small amount of slippage in your everyday sure-grip so a spool may save you a thousandth or two. If you are looking to squeeze every millisecond out of your car to compete with record holders then that may be the way to go. Spools aren`t street friendly though and if you plan on using the car on the road then that`s also something you`ll have to consider.

Also, there are even less people competing with their /6 cars. And even less (within that slice) that have spool knowledge. As for the /6 conspiracy theory ... I don't buy it. I see quite a bit of /6 banter and help here. Good luck with the spool decision.
