Stop in for a cup of coffee

I'm a little confused here but that's typical! I would change one thing at a time, Optima first and not the 180 thermostat and see it that helps your low voltage situation, after that not sure what your goal is.

The battery is not supposed to supply power when the engine is running... The battery is only supposed to supply power to start the car and that's it... The alternator is supposed to take over after the engine is started and then recharge the battery to replace the energy needed to start the car...

He needs to increase the power that the alternator is putting out at idle... Bumping up the idle RPM, put it in neutral when stopped at a light will help it idle a little higher, or putting a smaller pulley on the alternator so it spins faster at lower RPM will help...

Yes. Some A/C equiped cars raised the idle slightly when the A/C was on. It was done using an idle stop solenoid with a second position.

Try to get an alternator with better low rpm output or use a smaller pulley.
Getting an actual output test of an alternator, done at 14 Volts, is like asking for some great magical mystery.
once in a blue moon you used to find this in a box with a remanufactured.

Notice that it was done at 13.1 Volts. So it can't even be compared to the shop manual test, which is done at 15 Volts.
However 13.1 is just about high enough that the battery won't have to supply any juice. So at least its useful, unlike a test done at 12 or 12.5 Volts.
RPM is alternator, not engine.

In case your wondering, a test that was done regulating load at higher voltage would show lower max amperages

I used to do charging system tests at Sears when I was younger, we looked for voltage to be 13.3 - 15.0 volts for a good charging system...

Swallow Cliff?
Kids and their sliding implements of destruction fall off the cliff and are swallowed by the Earth?
Sounds like a good time to me

76!

Here are some pictures of the sledding at Swallow Cliff....

The hill...

The whole hill that used to have the toboggan slides... It's 124 steps to get all the way to the top where the control tower is... The control tower was where they controlled the gates to let the toboggans go, but is no longer used anymore... They only let sledding on the bottom half of the hill now...

Here's the bottom half where they let you sled...

Still cold. But thankfully no wind.

We had 28 mph winds... That will blow right through you...

The higher up the hill you went, the stronger the wind as it picked up as it went up the hill...

We took a few warm up breaks to keep from getting frost bite....

Get the candles and flashlights ready. If you were part of PG&E the lines would be down already and in the middle of a 200K acre brush fire. I read the other day that PG&E is going to file Chap 11 to limit their liability for that bigass fire in NorCal a few weeks ago.

I heard on the news here that PG&E may be the cause of 17 wildfires.... :mob:

Yeah, they file bankrupt to limit their liability... :icon_fU:

Call Erin Brokovich....

Here's a few pics from the other day of odd/weird things...

A crooked icicle hanging off the kid's 65 Barracuda.... The wind must have been blowing one direction as it formed, then changed to another direction, then no wind as the bottom is straight downward.... It bent as it froze.... How many times to you see this????
