I suppose that would be better than nuthin. At least they would be 'collected'. Only problem I see is if a lot get added, there won't be a good way to find anything in particular if not organized somewhat.

Very true. I don't know of any way to organize them though. The search function would bring them up though. A moderator would have to monitor the thread, edit the links into alpha order and delete the posts to reduce the clutter.
 
it's a nice idea but link pages are definately a bunch of work to keep organized and up to date. Moparts has a couple that are pretty good. Just send people there.

Anything in there on Brooklyn? There was a Conrad Bloss on that battle who most info says was my immigrant ancestor. But by my research was more likely his nephew or son of same name. Problem is no record of him or nephew afterward. Although ‘new’ info keeps coming out in bits and pieces. Recently found another misplaced Conrad in Nova Scotia...

No. I don't think so anyway. I saw one of the chapters mentions Calver and Bolton but I think just as a comparison. Calver and Bolton went around the New York City area investigating and recording encampment sites around 1900 - just before new streets or construction destroyed the sites.

Probably the way to find to the most about where Bloss served is to try to find records of who he enlisted with. Start with where he lived before enlisting - almost all soldier's served with companies raised locally. That's true regardless of whether it was a local militia unit, state service, or Continental. Very likely he signed up more than once. For the first couple years of the war, enlistment terms were short.

Yes - University of Florida Press. List price is expensive. I'm hoping there will be a discount offer. There was on the similar Civil War volume Huts and History but we'll see. We don't get any say in it. Heck they didnt even accept my corrections about myself. A little weird. Otherwise everthing looks pretty good in terms of copy edits, photo quality, etc.

Did that and more... problem is no way to tell which Conrad did what. Only one enlistment that I have seen, But lose track of all 3. The son shows up later in other records. DAR ‘credits’ father with the service, but I believe that was based less on knowledge of him and more due to lack of knowing about the other 2. The father would have been near 60years old. Much more likely that one of the others in their 20’s enlisted.

That's tough. I haven't done that sort of geneaology research. I recall the park librarian/archivist had a couple books he would start with and then try to dig deeper. Some records are with the National Archives, a lot more are with each state, and some stuff is in public libraries and even private hands. Pension claim requests are another form of record - probably not much help for a guy who was 60 in 1776.

I am Back for a few! My dad was all into Geneolgy when he retired. Used to find where a decedndednt lived and visit the church/town in Germany to go through the records. Pretty cool went back to the mid sixteenth century. I have all of it now. Want the kids to take it over and keep it up to date.
One town they brought him to a museum and low and behold there was a piano made by one of them in 1700 or so. That was his highlight.
 
Hit the door at 7:30,road tests and scans done. Parts ordered for 4 vehicles and an early coffee stop.parts for only one job were in stock, so i will knock it off and
Wait for 3:00 delivery.
