Hello All! Mom and Uncle/Aunts visit over, they're on the way to Coos Bay for my Uncle to run the Prefontaine Classic. Nice visit. Drywall going in the shop now (Saturday wow!). House finally has roof wrap.

I did a bunch of air travel earlier this week for work. I used to fly a lot for work a few years ago doing 104 flights one year and 62 flights the following year so I am well experienced in air travel. However, I haven’t had to fly for about 4 years.

There was something very different about these flights that I couldn’t put my finger on until today.

I realized that on every single flight, nobody was talking to each other. Total silence, except for brief answers to the flight attendants when they were serving beverages and snacks.

It took me until today to realize it. Now I think I understand why.

All the planes these days have WiFi including the smaller ones. Everyone was using their cell phones, tablets and computers during the flights and had isolated themselves into the digital world. No conversation or even notice of the people sitting next to them. Even families sitting together didn’t talk, just disappeared into their devices.

I didn’t mind the silence since I like to read during flights...but it was a very odd thing for it to be that quiet.

It was quite remarkable.

IMO Our "devices" are ruining our lives. People are addicted to Facebook! Just like if they were hooked on a drug... I think this epidemic will come back to haunt civilization.

Why would you talk to strangers anyways.

There is really nothing to say to someone you will likely never see again in your whole life.

"So how about them Minnesota Vikings "

Most families already know what's going on with each other and won't talk personal in public with stranger ears around

I might agree with you, but these same people were all talking up a storm with each other in the gate area in ear shot of everyone...but became silent on the plane.

I saw a group of 7 college students who were loudly talking, laughing and goofing around in the gate area but became completely silent once they got on the plane and pulled out their devices...even though they were all sitting together.

The psychology of the behavior was astonishing to witness.
