Stop in for a cup of coffee

My smart charger will de-sulfate a battery. Wonder if that is the issue. You need a VAT 40 @halifaxhops to properly test. A individual cell test with a hydrometer might tell the story.
That smart charger sounds good.
Could need more acid powder too I suppose.

Only a problem if you cook 'em off. And they don't like a heavy charge 'cause the acid is absorbed in the matting so they get hotter with more recharge current. Definately did not do that battery any favors by recharging off the alternator after the jump starts.:BangHead:

The best way to recharge a battery is a 2 amp trickle charge... It may take a few days, but it's not as hard on the battery...

Well the battery (dry battery) is only a couple months old. They (Antique Auto Battery) make them as you order them.
To be fair since the recharging problem is solved, alternator is working as it should, I probably just need to give it some time and see how it works.
Clore/Solar makes a Intelligent charger/maintainer. I have the MAC branded one.

I have a water tank in my garage. I supply water to sink and toilet with a 12 volt demand pump. Same battery for over a year with a 20 watt solar charger connected to the battery.

when you think about the chemistry, battery acid is sulfuric acid... Chemical formula H2SO4 (I don't know how to get the numbers at the bottom like they should be....) Water is H2O... So all sulfuric acid is is just two water atoms attached to a sulfur atom... Two parts water to one part sulfur.... Just add sulfur and water....

Craig I am pretty sure that Meter I gave you has a small load/amperage tester with it. Also most part6s stores should have a load meter to test it with, has to be fully charged to tell the story.

We had no chargers in camp. I had to let it cool off over night, a then run it at low rpm (idle) a second time.

Since then I bought the smaller Optima charger.
It varies the charge rate depending on what it finds in the test it performs.
Not bad for the size and price.

Morning all. Not a good one either. We woke up to news that my father in law, who’s been in cancer treatments for the better part of 4 years now for a rare bone cancer has had the cancer spread to his lungs in force. Probably because he refuses to stop smoking but nevertheless it sounds bad. Doctors are unsure if they can do anything at all as the treatments he’s been getting are maxed out and it still spread. And fast.

So any prayers would be appreciated. Sadly at this point, the inevitable has to be faced.

The Solar does the same. I am looking for the chart that tells how the different batteries are charged. Interesting stuff. The intelligent chargers vary the rate.

Then if its left on it switches to 'conditioning' mode whatever that is - maybe a desulfation thing.

Finally it goes over to maintining mode. That's usually around 13 - 13.7 Volts, 0 to .1 amps

Average battery size, 24 hours on 2 amps.

I worked at Sears back when I was in college... They had a charging station with copper rails and wires with aligator clips that we would put the batteries on to charge them... we would give the customer a free loaner to get by and tell them to come back in three days...

The loaner batteries were ones that were traded in under warranty that we were able to recharge and make good again...

After recharging the customer's battery, we would load test it before giving it back to them to make sure it was good... If it tested bad, they would pro rate a warranty exchange for them if it was out of the full free replacement time frame...

I worked at two different Sears garages, each manager had his own philosophy on exchanging batteries... One guy would exchange them and pro rate a new one even if the old one wasn't bad to make a sale on a new one...

The other manager would not exchange or warranty one unless we tested it and it failed... He refused to exchange a battery under warranty if it wasn't bad....

The one you have probably can do more than the little Optima.
I still have the antique charger for jumping and big loads.

I needed something I could carry easy and use when parked on the street.
This one is just too big and decripid for either.

So sorry to hear about that. Cancer is a *****.

Very sorry to hear...

Hopefully when he goes, it won't be prolonged causing him lots of suffering...

The smoking hasn't helped his cause, but it's probably too late to stop now, the damage is already done... If he's that bad, he's going to go whether he quits smoking or not... It's his life and his choice, let him choose what he wants to do... If he wants to keep smoking let him, quitting smoking now most likely will not buy him much more time....

Are they talking about putting him in Hospice???
