Stop in for a cup of coffee

@toolmanmike
Mike did you ever get one of those battery topper plates. I saw you in the thread I read this morning.
My resto battery is fading again. I'm not buying another one, time for plan B.
What do you have for charging and maintaining?
And maybe try to figure out why its failing - I mean chemically.

Can you open up the cells and add some water??? That will help the battery last longer...

Here is what's inside of my case.

Well the battery (dry battery) is only a couple months old. They (Antique Auto Battery) make them as you order them.
To be fair since the recharging problem is solved, alternator is working as it should, I probably just need to give it some time and see how it works.

But if there's a bunch of heavy buildup on the plates, that needs to be broken up.
Or if its fallen to the bottom as flakes - that doesn't reverse easily either. right?
There's a chemical that supposed to help with that. I'll try to find the name of it.

My smart charger will de-sulfate a battery. Wonder if that is the issue. You need a VAT 40 @halifaxhops to properly test. A individual cell test with a hydrometer might tell the story.

It used to be called VX6

Then you can't add water to those sealed type.... :( :BangHead:
Only a problem if you cook 'em off. And they don't like a heavy charge 'cause the acid is absorbed in the matting so they get hotter with more recharge current. Definately did not do that battery any favors by recharging off the alternator after the jump starts.:BangHead:

Trickle charge. Fast charging a battery greatly reduces its lifespan.
