Stop in for a cup of coffee

-
Same. Finally decided to mow the grass. Started right up. Was on it for maybe 10 minutes and the mower died. :wtf:
Won't restart. :BangHead: Starter runs strong, but not firing up at all. Pulled a wire and checked for spark. Not seeing any, but in bright sun, so not 100% sure. Definitly flooded at this point, but not sure if that is a symptom or the problem. After carb problems last year, would not surprise me. Coffee time. Let it sit, pull plugs....
I just wanted to mow the grass and not have to fix anything this morning...:soapbox:
Have you checked for a vacuum leak?

Her car has a pull point front and back. Threw a chain on and drug it to the front. Pushed into garage...
Mowed the dog's area with push mower. Neighbor said welcome to use their rider. So, will do that in next couple days. will do some troubleshooting and figure my POS out. Not even guessing at this point. No Chris I am not poking a stick at it till it tells me what it's problem is. :poke:

Afternoon guys, got a dilema. Daughters 07 PT Cruiser non turbo with 70k on it has an oil leak. I couldnt figure out what where it was coming from so brought it to the shop. Turns out its the head gasket got a quote of $1700 to fix it. This also includes sending the head in to have it checked for cracks and milled. The car is only worth $3300 so Im torn on what to do.. If it wasnt a DOHC engine I would do it myself, but I've done one of those before and it was a royal PITA. Car is in excellent condition overall, but for over half the cost of the car. Im not sure what to do.. Has anyone done a head gasket on the 2.4???

Everything under the hood is a pain. Too bad you're not closer. I have a buddy that has done a few and built a dozen PT Cruisers.

I am in the same boat with my cruiser. Too tight to get my hands in there but I kept driving it and then the timing belt went. at 84,000. What to do what to do?

I know! My daughter does not like the car, but its her first car and in such good shape. She is only 19 no credit yet and laid off because of the COVID stuff. So a loan is out of the question.

Im watching a you tube video of how to do it and holy crap it look like it sucks. No wonder the shop told me 8.5 hours of labor.

At one point I thought my Neon 2.0 leak was head gasket. Was the oil sender, but had oil everywhere.

And I just put $700 in tires and brakes and control arms
My theory is this.
If you like it, then it doesn't matter what its 'worth'.
How much will cost to replace with something you like equally as much?
And would it too might have items that need money in the next couple years. ??
That's the real question in my opinion.
Body looks great. So its not like dumping money in a rust bucket. Timing belt is a regular item on those, so its not like somehting that unusual or difficult.

The only danger in this reasoning is if the car is in an accident and the insurance company has a low book value on it you might not get as well covered as new car.
But yours car is in nice shape. You could either save some money (self insurance) for a 'just in case' fund, or try for an agreed value policy.

So I got the tach apart, no signs of anything leaking or busted. Anyone got any ideas as to where to go next

Great logic and I keep thinking it but It is tight in there and I am not sure my big hands will fit in there to do the work. But you are right Matt. If I replaced it with a similar year it could go too then I would have 2 in my yard. I tried selling it to Hoppy because he liked it. That's what we brought to Dave's for deliverance day

And get access to the switches.....need to make sure there is continuity across them. Use your VOM to do that....

I love the thing though. Easy for this old fat fart to get in and out
They good cars. Its been a long time since i have done a belt in one,is the 01 a single or dual cam? Dunno. Regardless, still a pain. But i do recall using a flat bar between slots in the end of the cams to keep em from moving.
Daughter is on her 3rd pt.
Totalled 2, 3rd one is mine. Read her the riot act, so much as a scratch on it and its parked.
Has been about 6 months and its still going without any damage.

I had a PT. Bought it new. Sold it 10 years later with 10,000 miles on it.
