The weather here was decent for Halloween... High 50's with sun out in the late afternoon... Not as cold as it could be, just a jacket and they are good...
I've trick or treated in much worse... One year we even had snow sideways on and off and we still went out...

Years ago, teenagers would ride around in the back of pickup trucks around here on Halloween and smash mail boxes.
If you recall that last turn you made onto our road, there’s a mail box there, that road is 1.5 miles perfectly straight, kids would get up speed and wack those mail boxes at 50-60 mph with a baseball bat or 2x4. Well ol man Ardie, RIP, got sick of it, about a month before, he had my grandfather come over and use the post hole driver to drive a solid 4 inch diameter steel round stock about 8 feet into the ground. Filled the hole with concrete. He then welded a piece of 1/2 inch steel plate to the top and bolted the new, very large, tractor shaped mail box to it with I don’t remember how many bolts, then he put this piece of 4-5 inch round PVC inside, between the pcv and the mailbox, he filled it with concrete. Well sure as ****, on Halloween night, the VFD pager went off about midnight. Group of teenagers needed medical help. Guess they’d been smashing boxes, one kid took a swing at that mail box with a bat, it gernaded on impact, breaking the kid’s arm, sending bat splinters into the the other kids in the back of the truck.
old man Ardie sat there, leaning against that damn mail box, just chewing on that dang old pipe, shaking his head. Funny thing is, that stopped the mailbox smashing in that area for many years

I’m introducing my kids to the legend of sleepy hollow. Scaring the crap out of them.
An M-80 will blow the door off the mailbox....
A 1/4 stick will blow all the walls away and just leave the floor of the mailbox....
(From what I hear... Someone told me....)
Riding in the back of a pick-up truck can be dangerous... I know a couple of people that died that way....

All I know is, that dang mail box turned that bat into splinters like you’d only see in a cartoon or movie. There wasn’t much left of that thing. The kids were a couple years older than me so I knew them a little bit but not well.
How many dogs do you still see riding loose in the back of pick ups still? Stupid people IMO.

Round here, loads. But we also have kids riding in backs of trucks. I refer to it as Darwinism. But we all do stupid stuff

7 full growed men in the back of a '79 Yota 4x4 after the truck owners bachelor party out celebrating at the main pit area and start finish line of the Firecracker 250 the night before the race.
I don't know who they were, I'm not tellin', I promise never to do it again.
Halloween in small town Texas after the Trick-or-Treaters were done. We used to put sideboards on the bed of pickups, put hay bales in the bed to stand on, hang tarps on the sideboards and load up on all the eggs we could afford. It also helped to have a few small bags of flour.
Once supplied and loaded with at least one driver (keep the widows up!) and 4 egg throwers in the bed. We would slowly drive down the street, plastering each other with eggs, trying our best to hit the folks in the back of the other trucks.
And if you did hit their windshield with an egg, you tried to follow that With a small beg of flour. The truck would have to stop while someone had to clean the goo off their windshield - and everyone egged that poor soul.
Town would stink like old eggs for the next couple of days and the coin car wash made lots of money. Everyone in town tolerated it as harmless fun.
It was like that for years until some “outsiders” moved in and demanded the sheriff’s department end “such a blatant waste of food, and littering the downtown street.”
End of the fun, but it’s still a great memory for all of us that experienced it.
