Stop in for a cup of coffee

Well it is a funny story, we were sitting around one evening having just completed a long range shoot where, as always the Creedmoores totally dominated and crushed all others. As we were watching some Cowboy TV (campfire) sampling mason jars for quality, one of the guys says what if we created a class whereas only lever actions with buckhorn sights could be used? We all laughed hysterically with the associated nobody could hit anything comments. Explaining what a ridiculously stupid idea it was we all agreed and moved on to new topic, mason jar does a couple more revolutions around the circle and wa la, best idea ever. Buckhorn challenge is born. This is the first year and it has been just a hot mess. I will find out today but average hits are maybe 15%? First week I was on top and only hit steel three times, lots of skunks. It has just been a blast. We will need to reformat a bit for next year as it went from a hysterical side show to an actual side match. We get a lot of spectators and some hilarious efforts.

Love it. :lol::thumbsup:

Well I am getting my mess put together for the last and final Cowboy shoot of the year. I will be shooting against another State Champ today so I will be pushed for sure. I love shooting against him as he is very fast. And a mere twenty or so years younger and he competes in a different division. But none of that matters when we line up side by side. He is an excellent competitor. I will find out today if I managed to pull off a victory in the Buckhorn challenge as well. At this point I am on top but folks get today to post more points. Hopefully my lead is enough to hold, we will see. Imagine shooting a pistol cartridge in a lever action rifle (1897 vintage) equipped with Buckhorn sights only, then engaging targets from 200-400 yards. It is a bit of a challenge. Trying to hit 8 inch plates. It is one of my favorite events, keep in mind the load has to be SASS compliant so very low power loads. You shoot, have a cup of coffee, maybe a biscuit then listen to see if you here the ring on the steel. It is a hoot. At even two hundred yards I have so much elevation correction I cannot even begin to see the target. You line up on center and add elevation hoping you don’t deviate from center axis, hah! Good times.

Awesome @Sublime one.

Did a bit of long-range precision marksmanship in my military time. 2k + with Barrett 50 and 1000 yard .308 KD range.

My vintage arms has been all 19th century black powder flint and percussion. No metal cased stuff but that would be very cool.

I used to love the math and reading winds

Hope you have a great day

lots of skunks.

I got my grendal out to 1000 meters back in the Spring. Farthest I’ve taken it. I’ve shot out to 1 mile with a 338 with some Seals back in 2008

Navy cats always rolled the higher caliber, flat trajectory rounds. Figure if your working off a vessel or rotary wing it's almost a necessity. I know that firing from a rotary wing platform with a "light" round (.308...172gr HPBT) bolt gun is a PITA.

<~~~~ made too much good time back to the house. Waiting for 4 hours at the circle track for the racing to begin didn't sound like fun, so I jetted right on by. :( Figgered that LA traffic would disrupt my trip just the right amount, no such luck :BangHead:
