I'm back from the Thursday grand kid school run.
Going to enjoy some more coffee.
I need to go out to the shop and clean up the mess John and I left out there yesterday. :D
We having that 383 running great. I was slapping gears yesterday, and it responded like it should...amazing!!

Hey retire and they will eventually pay you to stay home.
With your on duty knee injury you also might be entitled to a tax free monthly VA disability payment.

Yeah I got 3 years before I can do that.

and knee x 3, plus back muscle tear, plus tinnitus. I keep getting told by everyone to get on that with the VA but i can’t seem to bring myself to do it. Not when I go up to the Va with my FIL and see all the actual wounded and disabled vets.
 
Back from a visit to the vampires. Coffee and a muffin tasting really good this morning. Had to 'fast' since 10 last night for a test....

I thought the same, but told by more than one person that service is service and your injury during service is no different other than theirs. Theirs is just more severe. The VA WANTS to pay you for your service and injuries. I'd start the process now. My wife got VA payments while still a part-time serving reservist. They just deduct the VA amount from your drill pay at what would be a VA daily rate. Go in to the VA and talk to a service representative. I used the VFW rep and he's great. I tracked down paperwork and he took care of the rest. No charge to you. Do it!!

I have the same attitude...and my buddies that have a VA relationship beat me up about not doing something. I've been out for 16 years now and it makes it harder as time goes by. Just getting the initial rating is good I think (I didn't do it) doesn't mean you have to pursue anything more. Fill out the forms and see where it goes. In 30 years you might wish you had that to fall back on.

And the same to you too Chris. You can still drop an application and see where it goes. All you'd have to do is provide some paperwork and go in for an exam or two. If you receive a rating you will be back paid to the date of your application. It is so simple and tax free money is nice. A small payment for all we went through. You've earned it.

I’m not eligible for the VFW. Never deployed to a war. I’ll start looking into it. I tried the county Va rep a couple years back and he told me to wait until I got out.

One question is trying to understand. When looking at the pay rates, it shows married with spouse and children. I’m assuming I’ll fall into that pay rate or is that only for special cases?

Yep. Take every dime you are entitled too. I've never been in service, but that was my attitude toward Unemployment, etc. Always figured I would just take my paycheck for work done. But, really it's your money that they put away for you. So many people dipping in the pot that are not deserving for one reason or another. I've payed by payroll and taxes all my life. So I will accept anything they want to give me. You payed the day you signed up and again with ever time you got injured in fulfilling your commitment.

Yes you do. For an example look at 50% married with kids. That's what you'd receive every month, and it will entitle you to VA benefits based on your disability rating to include free medication.

Had a guy working for me at one point that was milking the system. I about threw him out the 6th floor window one day. He was an Admin in the service... already had an exotic/complex workspace accommodation due to his "injuries". When he stated he required 1st Class flights when travelling I about gave him his jump wings.

Another well said. I'm with you. I wasn't in the service but from what I have heard it doesn't pay all that well but your sacrifices are huge. SIgn up and enjoy what benefits you have coming to you.

That's correct and NO pressure to join. He also helped my wife with her claim. We did join though after it was all said and done. Took some back pay and bought a lifetime membership. We don't go to meetings or events. We thought it was our way of saying thanks.

Beautiful day here. Sunny 55 and moving toward upper 60's. After this the 2 week forcast barely gets above 50 Need to get outside and get busy...
