Stop in for a cup of coffee

Chris aka Willie. I think you are overthinking this a bit to much. Double check the adjustments and if that does not do it drop the pan and look for some debris of some sort.
He needs a helper to do it I think is part of the problem. Those pushbutton cables are pretty much impossible to adjust without someone inside the cabin pressing buttons and moving lever

Used cable... upgrade to the sprinkler system I had under there originally.... those dang pushbutton cables are not inexpensive
When you took the old one off, did you just yank it or did you depress the detent in the housing?

Hmm they look kind of fresh? No idea where they came from. Looks like shavings. steel or aluminum? Any one else?

Used the TSM procedure.

One thing I learned really well from the Army was how to follow directions

Getting a feel for the spring release took a couple minutes but it went easily from there

Those were fun reading we somehow got them with the H-60 supplements. fun reading for sure.

I helped Moto convert his TA Challenger from 4 spd to 727. It had to be done, his right leg was in a cast from his toes to his private parts and would be that way for 12 months while it healed. Had to drive with his right leg on the passenger side. $10 Mustang shifter from the salvage yard and we were done with it in one day.

Yup... we used to switch out 50s Chevy 3 speed for a 4 speed in about 45 minutes. LoL. Easy peasy
