Stop in for a cup of coffee

You really need to make sure you have several things ready upon fire up. Have a timing light connected. Have timing very close to where it should be. A fire Extinguisher, A srewdriver to adjust carburetor. Get a box fan in place, in front of the radiator. Some extra coolant or Water. I like to start mine with just water , in case there is a leak somewhere. Most Important, Another set of eyes to look for leaks or other issues. Good Luck.
there's one - what the heck do I hook my timing light to? the battery is in the trunk...

how do those top fuel cars do it? they don't run a cooling system do they?
In my Pulling tractor, I put sand in the block instead of the water. The thing is, you can heat them up, but running alcohol the heat does not have much effect on the performance. Just have to let them cool off by themselves. NO water! That will crack something. I used a Blower turning HARD! Had to use copper head gaskets to keep the pressure in. They would leak coolant, so no way to water cool. But not needed in that app.

like to leave the distributor"just" loose enough that I can move it by hand, and have a wrench to tighten down.
You shoul be able to get 12vts at the rear of your Alternator, and ground to the block.

ah yes - the distributor one I knew - the alternator trick I like!! I might have thought of it... but probably not - makes too much sense - LOL

Nope, when my Father passed away, I sold everything. A REAL expensive undertaking. With a drag car, you can test run it, on the street or a track. With a pulling tractor, no way to test it before you make a pull. You need a sled and who has one of those laying around? So lots of trail and error.

well, I am rolling outta here - really nice out and my mom is here - plus I would like to make it home at a reasonable hour and do some wrenching on the Scamp... thanks for the input guys - MUCH appreciated!

My neighbor pulls on the Lucas Oil 10,200 lb pro stock tractors
