I'm good at wiring, best way to make sure the power is off is lick my fingers and grab the hot wire just to make sure.

OK.. Weird story.
My grandfather used to be able to mess with live wires and not feel shocked.... He would work on fuse panels bare-handed with the power on. If we were out in a field he'd laugh when he told you to hold one end of the electric fence and you got snapped.
Could never wear a wristwatch.... they would stop running.
