Sharon is indeed a muffin. Thanks. Niiiiice bike. How the heck do you find parts? My last previous bike, which I hadda give up partly because of scarcity of parts but mostly for fear of my life, was an '84 XS1100S Special, very similar to your 750 and torquey as hell after we reset the sparkplug holes, bored and Dynajetted it. Wouldn't go any faster than about 90 what with only 4 gears but it'd do it on a full wheelstand in a NY minute, often when ya' didn't want it too. Ya' can't put a fatter tire on those things! But I can't stand bad combustion.

I don't do 2 wheels myself, but here's a recent shot of my son's ride

Thanks Ron. I've had this thing for near 30 years. Parts haven't been a huge issue. Guy at the Yamaha dealership looked at me funny when i needed some lifter pads to set the valves tho! He let me swap what i had for i needed for free.. 1100 was an absolute badass in its day.. i rode a few. Monsters...

Good evening folks!

Spent the day checking and diagnosing all the vacuum HVAC controls in the GTS with my new vacuum tester. Looks like the control switches are fine and the AC doors all work like they should. The problem I found is that none of the heater and defrost controls work. It won't develop or hold any vacuum when those are selected.

I'm going to have to trace those when I tear the dash apart over the Winter. I suspect the previous owner disabled those controls by disconnecting the vacuum lines to those doors. I'm guessing he wanted all air flow to always go through the AC being down south in the muggy moist air of the Mississippi river and Gulf coast.

Typo. 1981 XS1100S

Cool stuff.. i believe 2 wheels are only as dangerous as you make them. But it's real easy to make em dangerous!
I make em dangerous. LOL. Rode bicycle plenty as a kid and occasionally mini bikes. No prob. But later tried Motorcycles and just not good - balance thing...

It is indeed. The vacuum line to the controls wasn't hooked up when I got it and I've never spent the time to check it all out before I hooked it up again. I finally hooked it up today knowing that I can at least run the AC doors with it. It was always stuck on recirc before.

And I am doing just fine this nice Saturday evening. Having a few ice cold Coors Extra Gold Lagers while I think about what to do for the rest of the coming week. I'm on vacation until the 15th.

Coors Extra Gold sounds great. Vacation sounds even better. Glad you got your health issues in check...

I note the beer stacked up behind the bike in the pic. Beer does indeed increase the riskiness of 2 wheels. Me, I don't ride like I used to, and in-between my Triumph 650 Tiger and the XS1100 I stayed off street bikes for nearly 20 years. I did not stay off motocross bikes though. Nice thing about those is ya' still fall down but after ya' do the school bus doesn't hit ya'. And it's surprising how much of what ya' learn dodgin' trees and navigatin' mud on a 300 lb bike comes into play and helps ya' avoid catastrophe when navigatin' a 750 lb bike in traffic. When I got the XS1100 it had a fairing and hard bags, a feature of which, added by the previous owner, was petcocks on the bottoms of the bags so ya' didn't have to bail the water out after the beer was gone and the ice was melted. Wow it was like, 1998 I searched the universe and got what I was sure was the last 4 NOS rubber intake boots for mine. Can't believe stuff is still out there.

The internet makes the world a lot smaller. Just gets pretty pricey. I found a bike salvage yard here locally. The owner was a real dick and was proud of his stuff (he had to make a living tho). Never failed to have anything i needed..
