Stop in for a cup of coffee

-
Hello folks!

Check out my chili! It's the biggest yet but unfortunately I mixed the pots up when I re-planted them so I have no idea which kind it is. I did some pollinating just now since the weather is way too cold, windy and rainy to have the plants outside for the bees to get to them.

Looks like Habenero we have. Wife got 1 plant, has a bunch of peppers on. I need to figure out how to use them. I'm used to Jalepeno. These things are stupid F'n hot! Tried using 1 in salsa the other day and burned the crap out of my tougue.

Cars and Coffee tomorrow morning! it looks like the weather is going to cooperate too - the "show" is 8-11 and the forecast shows 45% chance of rain around 11 - gonna be keepin' an eye to the sky for sure!

bring a tent hahaha

He he, yeah, you need to work up your tolerance level. :) I started in the hot sauce game last summer and now Habaneros are to soft for me. The ones I'm growing are all in the top tier except for one or two plants of Habanero, which is one notch (possibly two) down, I would say.

I fell in love with Chipotle peppers - smoked Jalapenos - but before I finished the first bottle of sauce I had increased my dose from a few drops to a few teaspoons. It soon became too expensive to keep buying finished sauces so I started making my own. It's difficult to find good fresh pepper fruits here, though, and they're pretty pricey too so I decided I needed to grow my own.

Then just a few weeks ago I stumbled upon a shelf full of really strong sauces at a grocery store near our summer house. I bought a Carolina Reaper sauce and boy, that thing is REALLY hot. Carolia Reaper isn't one of the peppers I'm growing, but they are very similar in hotness.

Sure did got home after running around with Posi Ron and it just hit me hard. Did the shower and my body temp was up around 103 before then 100 after. Weird never had that happen before even working in 130 heat. Must be getting old!

I had that, like, a month ago. Knocked me out for 2 days. Temp would go way up then crash and I'd sweat the bed full, then it'd go all the way around again. Patient First had no idea, took blood and urine but couldn't find any infection or anything but they gave me a general purpose antibiotic anyway and wow it cleared it up in a couple hours. So I'll drive ya' down there if you want to go. I had spent like 3 hours in the garden the day before in the 100+ heat index. Told ya' not to be drinkin' my beers.

Meanwhile 2 bad 4 you; I brought garage beer too. Guess Stanley and I will have to hang out and drink those for you while you're laid up. I have 4 non-Mopar fenders scattered all over your garage floor. Yeah I went to the welder this morning and now I know what to do. Today will be a good day to use the aircraft stripper then play in the water hose.

Garden: Time for fried green tomatoes - Mmmm.

Ray, you forgot to get your peppers yesterday. I'll bring ya' some.

Peppers will cross if ya' plant 'em too close together. We have some green and red peppers that aren't supposed to be hot but are planted kittycorner to the Jalapenos and so they're kinda hot. Not too hot but nicely hot. Other kittycorner to the Jalapenos are the banana peppers and we do that on purpose 'cause the result is they both get way hotter. They turn red sooner too. One year we planted Hungarian peppers next to Habaneros and they were so hot they'd raise blisters on your lips.

Ever can hot dogs and peppers? Yeah cut hot dogs into about 2 inch lengths, mix em with sliced peppers, ketchup and a little vinegar, boil 'em 10 minutes and cold-pack 'em. Killer good. And don't throw out the sauce when you're done eatin' 'em; it's great for spaghetti, chile', sloppy Joes whatever.

Habaneros stuffed with cream cheese and chives topped with bacon and ranch dressing!! Only thing better'n that is to deep-fry 'em.

If I remember my biology classes, the crossing is in the seeds so the fruits that come out on the "mixed" plants will be the same as the seeds that were planted but if I plant the seeds from the crossed fruits, the fruit on those second generation plants could be different.

Right?

If I remember Ghostbusters, crossing the streams 'would be bad' :D

My own Bolognese downed with the kids. No part two of LOTR tonight, dinner too late for the 11-yo (it's 8:30 pm now and the movies are all three hours long).

Thank god for red wine.

Well I'm going to kick back and have a 302 and relax. Eye strain is a terrible thing.
